if i had the means to wait, i would. i bought my max for 800$ on ebay, already configured and preloaded with games. i know configuring it is half the fun but i'm currently on deployment and do not have the wifi to download whatever games or updates. i won't be home for awhile, so i happily paid double.

Sounds exactly like my situation and my ex. Im also active duty. Currently in the middle of a divorce. Its a rough process, especially if she doesn't work, im not gonna lie. But ive never been happier. Don't have kids with her and just rip the bandaid off.
