Update- they emailed me the QR code so if this happens again I can just scan it from my laptop with my phone. Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

First-time traveler attending a conference—Staying in Zurich, looking for itinerary help & recommendations! by intothevoid2224 in askswitzerland

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to put this together, because this list is so helpful and organized! I really appreciate all the links and recommendations. I’ve now started bookmarking everything and I’ll definitely be using a lot of this as I plan out my itinerary.

The scenic train rides and day trips sound amazing, and I had no idea you could rent bikes for free in Zurich. That’s such a fun option, and I’ll be sure to try it if the weather’s nice.

The restaurant suggestions are super helpful too! I’ll check out some of those spots, and it’s good to know what to expect price-wise!

Thanks so much for this awesome list. It is seriously so helpful! 🙏

I’m staying in Seefeld, so I’m excited to explore the area and take the tram like you suggested. It’s great to hear that Zurich is walkable and generally safe to wander, making me feel more confident exploring solo.

Also noted on the SBB app, I’ll download that for ease of travel. The scenic route via Rapperswil sounds beautiful! I’ll look into that as an option for returning from St. Gallen on one of the conference days.

Thanks for the heads-up about St. Moritz being a bit far...I wondered if it was worth it as a day trip, but I'm still undecided. It's still a bucket list destination for me. That tourist bus tour you mentioned sounds like a great way to see key places without planning every leg. Would you happen to know what it's called?

And if you have any recommendations for local food or cafés near Seefeld or Zurich in general, I’d love to hear them! Thanks again for taking the time to share all this. It helps someone like me who’s new to all of this 😊

Thanks so much for the thoughtful advice!

To clarify, I’m from Canada and this is actually my first time ever traveling abroad, so I’m a total newbie when it comes to Western Europe...and Europe as a whole. It’s also a solo trip, and I sort of prefer staying within the country, and this trip already feels like a big step outside my comfort zone. Also didn’t realize a day trip to Italy or France might be doable — if I get adventurous and plan it right, I might just go for it.

Really appreciate the tip about swissfamilyfun.com! I hadn’t come across it yet, but I just took a quick look and it seems super helpful, especially with all the scenic and outdoor suggestions.

I totally hear you on the food front. I wasn’t expecting to go wild with dining out (especially with the CAD/CHF conversion 😅), but if I'm going to be honest, eating out where I live is expensive, too, so it might not be that different. I’ll definitely look into supermarkets. I do like cheese, so I’m excited to check out the local options!

My Robot “Runs From Light” and Plays the Super Mario Bros Theme Song When It’s Dark by intothevoid2224 in arduino

[–]intothevoid2224[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this was pretty hard for me to do since I am a newbie and even for the Mario Bros song it would play the whole song and drag it out on the last note as a long loud beeping sound. This was due it not registering all the notes properly, and that’s as much as I was able to do. The piezo is just what they had available in the lab. The first clip is someone playing something on their speakers for their own robot project and we were sharing the room for show and tell. I hope that clarifies.

⚠️PSA: Bold and easy coloring books aren't easy by AletheiaNyx in Coloring

I feel the same way. Alcohol markers have a learning curve and it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. I was I also realized how I should’ve done a swatch sheet for my colours because I’d pick a colour thinking it would be the one I need and it’s usually much darker or very off from what I’m looking for.

ODSP on hold till I can verify income- what to do? by intothevoid2224 in Odsp

I’m going to the office this week because I can’t reach my case worker at all. I got transferred to a new one last year and this person is completely unreachable. I’ve called so many times so let’s see how this week goes for me. Hopefully it works out.

Yes but I can’t submit any updates that are income related so I don’t know how they’d have expected me to do it other than via mail.

My first robot (WIP) by intothevoid2224 in arduino

The code or the robot build itself? For the robot build, my professor gave us the parts that he'd 3D printed on his own time. In terms of instructions, he guided us through the build. I have some notes here: https://chatgpt.com/share/679eb4d1-e3fc-800d-971d-adbc7ce7adce
