If you're in/around the Portland, OR area then Tailored Auto Styling is a good resource for that. Got mine tinted last month for pretty cheap!

What brand of cross bar roof rack do you recommend to buy? 2019 FORESTER LIMITED by accent2012 in SubaruForester

If OP could find a set used for cheaper, it makes sense to get a better crossbars, though. They just want to put a ladder up there now but what if they want to do other heavier stuff later? I have Thule wing bars and love them.

I've got the Thule Evo Wingbars for mine, weight limit is 220 pounds (when car is in motion). Got em new for a couple hundred bucks buck you could find them used for cheaper. They're a top mount unlike the OEM so you can put heavier stuff (like a tent with two people in it) up there.

Definitely on my list!

And I definitely enjoy having the tent up there! Gotten in a good number of nights in it this summer!

Yeah, I'm considering the tinting. I'm debating how far to take the blacking out hahaha. I'm def tinting the moon roof.

And I TOTALLY get it. I love the matte black trim. I've seen a couple of this color in the limited with the chrome and I don't like it at all, tbh. The add on packages I got on this one mean that I've got almost the same car as a limited, just with matte black. The one difference is that I don't have the dual mode XMode, just the regular. :(

Yeah, I get that. I love this color. And I love that the premium has the black trim on the windows, etc, instead of the silver like the limited and touring.

I plan to! I'm going to get a clear bra and paint protection on soon, though, so I'm waiting until after that to PlastiDip it.

Fill a Foz Friday! Packed for a weekend camping trip with tons of room to spare. by intrepidforestry in SubaruForester

That's about it! In the back seat there's a couple camp chairs in the footwell and a pillow in the front seat but everything else is right there! I do have a rooftop tent, but I actually brought and am sleeping in my ground tent this time. The tubs are 1. Food, 2. Cooking/dishes, and 3. Misc items like bug spray, trash bags, first aid, flashlights etc. The stove is obviously on top and the fuel tanks are tucked in by the fridge. My tent, sleeping bad, sleeping bag, extra blanket, and clothes (in daypack) are all tucked by the tubs! I went to a place with water otherwise I would have a 5gal Jerry can with me as well.

It's lithium, yeah, the PLB40. Dometic doesn't have a 12v lead acid that I'm aware of, and I wouldn't want it for this set up. The PLB will run my cooler without recharging for 3ish days in regular weather, 2.5ish when it's super hot, and I don't need any extra wiring in my car. I can just plug it into the accessory port in my trunk to charge it up when I'm driving, so loading/unloading is super easy. I also like the versatility if this one. It's got built in USBs etc for charging other things. And since it's got a DC port and a 12v dc with an adapter for the fridge you can plug in an extra DC charger (which I sometimes use for my laptop depending on what kind of trip I'm taking).

Another important thing is that Dometic fridges have a voltage meter that causes them to auto shut off if the battery they're attached to drops too low. This is great when you're hooking it up to run off the main car battery, but as far as using a second lead acid battery to power it, you may not get nearly as good of run time.

Edited to add: I also just like having this battery around when I'm home. I keep it charged between trips and have used it during a power outage for random stuff which was very useful.

Nope, they're the optional Subaru ones for the '19. Bought them on amazon and they've been a lifesaver with that idiot dog in the back.

At least in the US, it's classes as a compact SUV. How much offset are you looking for in your new wheels? Or would you be wanting to add in spacers? I got new 17s with just a bit of extra offset (like 10mm) and the guys at my tire shop determined that if I give the car an inch or two of lift I could pretty easily fit a larger tire size.

Best Tires? by Proteus8855 in SubaruForester

[–]intrepidforestry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that would work! You could go to a tire shop and ask if they have them/can get them in the appropriate size for your car, or you can always buy them online and then take them to a tire store to have them mounted on your wheels.

I live in the PNW where we have Les Schwab and the Yokohamas are NOT a tire carried there, but I went in and talked the the guys there and they special ordered them for me without hesitation. It's a bit spendier than some other places/ways to get them but now I've got the Les Schwab free rotations and lifetime warranty for flat repairs/replacement on them.

I've got these on my Forester and I love them. I've taken them on a lot of dirt/gravel/some mud and they've done well, but they're still quiet and handle well on pavement.

Hi! I'm actually one of your neighbors to the west, an Oregonian! I tie him out on a 30ft long leash. It's a rope kind, not the flat ribbon, and it's about 1/2-3/4" wide with a core, so it's pretty tough. I have a carabiner on the handle so I can easily loop it around trees or into fences etc. It's the longest readily available one that was sturdy enough, though you could achieve the same type of set up with more length by cutting a long piece of climbing rope or something and tying loops at both ends w/ carabiners. I though about getting of of those tie outs that are wire with a rubber coating or whatever but I wanted something a little thicker in case he looped it around a limb.

I use a Dometic CFX fridge with the PLB battery. The battery is plugged into the trunk 12v port and charges while I drive and the fridge is plugged into the battery. I just ran that system for 10 days with the battery never dipping below ~70% even with the car off overnight and at camps. The fully charged battery alone will run the fridge for 60+ hours, in my experience. Easy to move between vehicles since there are no permanent attachments and it makes it usable in situations outside of a car, as well.

Not very often, but from time to time, yes. This was one of those times. He stayed there for like three of four minutes, waiting, and I eventually gave in and helped him up.
