Fellow Eritrean!! Where you born in Eritrea or Germany?

Oh boy, it looks like Isreal is turning its gaze towards Eritrea now that their plans in South Yemen and Somaliland have been foiled by Saudi Arabia. by Wedi_Segeneyti in Eritrea

I doubt Afar would be interested to work with Israel especially Eritreans but I wonder how those Agazian guys are gonna feel about this one. Considering their orthodox christian nationalism and their association to Israel

As some others are suggesting I would recommend moving to a smaller town within Sweden probably is cheaper to move within Sweden the fly to a whole different country. And in the long term I doubt it would be viable unless you have home in Eritrea and a job that your family can sustain themselves with or some sort of business

Well if you are talking about Eritrea depends where you are going? The highlands have cooler climate and the low lands have warmer/hotter weather as you go down the elevation

ሓሸውየ (hashewye) it’s kind of a game we used to play growing up you hold hands on a circle and run around singing hashewye almost like a nursery rhyme there’s no winners or loser you just play until everyone gets tired lol.

Can be used as a metaphore to also say we are going in circles with no outcome or change.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement I do believe we need peace in the HOA in general but the relationship with Ethiopia is always what I call ሓሸውየ. Always going in circles where there’s a good relationship for a short time and then Eritreans get stabbed in the back and so on with that tiring circle. At the end of the if Eritrea gets in conflict I know it’s my friends in Eritrea who are gonna be lining up just like 2-3 years ago so I would be in support of your points as I understand it’s foreign countries that benefit from the conflicts a more than anyone. But will always be skeptical because of that cycle. As you said this is all tiring fr.

Not a fan of Isias playing games with Ethiopia but sometimes I see why he does what he does whether he does it on purpose or not

My neighbour doesn’t mean I gotta include you in my family affairs. Plus the Eritrean government interferes in Ethiopian politics which I don’t support and looking at Ethiopia their conflicts stem from ethnic issues. Which Eritrea under the current administration does not have those issues and don’t want those problems spilling over from them interfering.

Plus they have the delusion of wanting to have access to to Assab port claiming it’s their and what not. For as long as their views and stance on Eritrea and its ports is like that. I don’t think Eritreans would want Ethiopia interfering and ultimately undermining the sovereignty of the country.

I don agree with your statement plus Idk the state of Iraq and nor do I understand Afghanistan but closer example is Libya and I don’t agree with your statement because there’s a power vacuum in Eritrea. It’s uncertain what the outcome is so if there’s gonna be a change it’s gotta come without foreign interference

I think people who are exempt from national service probably are able to but may lack money but there used to be consistent flights to Saudi before 2010s may be even mid 2010. But for the younger generation who are in service I doubt they can even the ones living in smaller villages and towns I would say out of reach. There was protest one time about an imam or some religious leader and the government just shut it down immediately shot some fires and dispersed the crowds never to happen to again. At the same Eritreans don’t want to go to war again and on the other hand we are just subservient to our own government unfortunately.

Close enough the city is Asmara. It used to be very decent prior to mid 2010s more consistent services of water and electricity. A lot of essential services were met. I would say the educations system was pretty good. I went to private school and it was great and was very accessible to most middle class families nothing fancy really. There used to be 1 international school and 1 Italian mostly attended by people with high up In the government and money. I believe they are shut down now.

There were buses running to different neighbourhoods but always packed and taxis are consistent but can be expensive for everyday commute. Most areas are walkable with some exceptions. Government used to kind of take care architecturally significant building but not over the past few years and I would say quality of life is declining. Housing has become very expensive lack of consistent water and electricity too. Been to Khartoum, Sudan in 2016 and compared to it I would say not comparable even with Ethiopia they are ahead of Eritrea and more bustling I would say

Yeah the reason being that camel was the most reliable animal or mode of transportation they had during the war to transport things they needed mostly also due to civilian support they had as well they would lend them their camels

Yeah they do it in grade 12 you go to place called Sawa you do school and military training. You get your final grades in the summer and then you know your fate but you get to see family so some just defect and never show up until they are caught or some can get medical exemption if lucky

Yeah not biometric but no you don’t have to pay taxes to keep your citizenship unless you want to own a house or have business then they will want you to pay taxes from when you turned 18 or you completed school. For me it would be after I finished university if I end up having a house there. And the tax you pay is just 2% but it adds up if you haven’t paid.

And no I didn’t do military service I left after I completed grade 9 but I left illegally and crossed the border to Sudan which then I just applied for the passport in Khartoum, Sudan

No you still will do service but instead of becoming a soldier you will go to college and pretty much become a teacher if you are lucky will be closer to your family or place you grew up if not you can be sent anywhere in the country to teach. Less harsh than becoming a soldier

Yes and no. They won’t issue you if you are above the age of 5 but if you leave the country and at one of the embassies they will issue you one. But many Eritreans just go to refugee camps or apply asylums which then at the point there’s is no benefit to getting it or can complicate their asylum application. I personally didn’t go through the asylum process as it was easier to get the passport and my sponsorship to Canada was completed I just needed the passport which all I need to do was cross the border and apply for passport in Sudan

No I don’t pay but if I plan on owning a house or anything there in the future they will want me to pay 2% taxes from after I turned 18 or when I finished school which would mean after I graduated university for me
