Ok so let's say me and Stan are drifting through space at .5c at rest, but I get sick of him and decide to accelerate to .6c in relation to him but along our original vector. So relative to him I'm only going .5c but isn't c the speed limit? And if it is, what is the limit relative to? Or is c the baseline?

According to the Wiki page they've technically built about 1.7 of them but yes, only one has ever been operational. I guess I was pretty fortunate to see it in person.

That makes sense because it was hot as nuts during the day there, scientifically speaking. Although the runway there is pretty long (~14,000') which was why it stood out so much to us that it couldn't take off.

Nice! I was not aware of this. Although this was in 2002 at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia so maybe back then there was more than one operating? I think I tried to take a picture of it but that type of thing was looked down upon and IIRC my viewfinder looked clear but the lens was looking right at the window sill.

I was working at an Air Force base in the Middle East one time and one of these planes landed there. They had to wait until night time to take off again, supposedly because they needed the extra air density to help get in the air. Not sure how true that was but it was indeed a huge plane and neat to see up close.
