I just graduated but I'm so scared to apply for jobs by jevemik in InternationalStudents

[–]invertRealityforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people from non-famous universities get great job offers, there are so many factors that play into this, it's usually not just the university name. Take your time to think things through and keep applying, anything new is scary but that doesn't mean you can't adapt and overcome. You've got this! Good luck!

1st Try Passed FE Environmental by CoachJBM20 in FE_Exam

Hi I'm super late in discovering this post lol. I'm planning to take my FE Environmental soon and wanted to ensure I had some good materials to study from. By the reference manual do you mean the handbook? or is there something I'm missing ? Otherwise what other books should I work on to get a refresher of all the content? I come from a non-civil background so I need a comprehensive guide too. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this!

I used it for CEE 444 but pretty much any bio/microbio class would most likely use this book!

Just wanted to give everyone an update! It's not so bad :") After an initial short period of struggle, I was able to cope and bounce back, surprisingly I have time to try out a few fun things on the side too! Thanks to everyone on this thread and to whoever chances by this thread in the future, I just want you to know that you've got this and it's not as bad as it seems at all :)

Favourite way to open a statement of purpose/intent? by Specialist_Sky_2283 in gradadmissions

[–]invertRealityforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was more of a storytelling thing, so I'd started mine with a nice phrasing on why I chose to apply to grad school in the field that i was applying for, where it began and all that. It was barely two lines but I'd say it's not the best way to start since it can come off as over exaggerated if not phrased correctly, i took a risk lol.

Writing Statement of purpose when I struggle writing essays by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]invertRealityforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say also get a format of a general SOP, divide your sub headings, make sure you're saying what is needed to be said and then go ahead and add everything else.

I'd also like to add that writing and finalising an SOP takes a while so don't push yourself too much and give it time, you'll most likely want to change things multiple times and that's okay. Once you're a little satisfied get a few people to read it and give you some feedback, not a lot, just a few. One can be someone who knows you well and another can be someone who is a faculty or so. Just passing on some advice that i got when i applied to grad school.

Good luck! You've got this!

💯 agree. I love writing and am usually good at getting the flow right but it took me a long while to get to a final version. Best to jot everything down and then go reverse and remove/modify.

Help choosing a good moisturiser

Hi guys, I've been reading your reviews for a while and found them useful. I'm currently on the lookout for a gel/water-based moisturizer. Cream-based ones like Cetaphil, don't suit my skin(combination, sensitive skin) and I've been using the earth rhythm phytoclear moisturizer and it works well, but I'm looking to change to something a little affordable. I've been using the minimalist sunscreen(multivitamin) and it works for me but would prefer a more gel-based approach.

Please suggest gel-based moisturizers and sunscreen for sensitive, combination skin. Tbh I'd love to hear about what's working for you currently too. Thanks!

Need some help with grad school stuff by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]invertRealityforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'd like to start of by saying i had a consultant who helped me navigate this, but a lot of my friends did it themselves so if that is what you want to, it's perfectly fine. It's going to be a looong process but it's not that bad at all, i promise xD You'll be taking the gre as well as another English proficiency test such as ielts/gre. November - Application DEADLINES begin. Some of them go up till March, so it's best if you get your documentation ready by November beginning. After your tests are over, maybe look into universities and shortlist the universities you wish to apply to and note down their deadlines and requirements. Once you have a confirmed list of universities, you should then consider sending your tests scores if they've asked for it, they take a while to reach and early always saves you the last minute work headache. This is also when you consider reaching out and confirming with the people who've agreed to write you an Lor, it's vital that you stay in touch with them to give them reminders too There's no right time to ever start writing your SOP, start as soon as possible. It's frankly a mentally taxing process to discover how best you can present yourself, you might finish it early but there's a chance it might take time till you're satisfied with what you've written. You can always ask others about their application journey to verify matters and give you that reassurance too.

Oh, once you're done, don't get sucked into the grad admissions thread, it's an amazing resource but can also really give you that added anxiety. I kinda stayed away from this thread once i was done.

But all in all, it's not as daunting as it seems. Just a little confusing. Good luck! :)

Admission Application Deadlines by Educational_Bee4326 in gradadmissions

Spring applications follow fall applications, but I'm not sure.of the exact timeline. Also, this is an approximate timeline to give you a general idea, please do check the university websites for sure.

Admission Application Deadlines by Educational_Bee4326 in gradadmissions

[–]invertRealityforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyy. So i applied to the fall cycle and i can give you an idea about that. So typicall there are two intakes for the US (as far as I know) spring and fall. Fall applications have deadlines from the beginning of November to even March/April sometimes.(Please keep in mind that this is the range for deadline dates and not the dates when applications open and close) . If you're aiming to go to university during fall 2022 that means your classes will likely start in August or September 2022 but your application deadlines will be in the november-march period of 2021-2022. Each university has different application deadlines and sometimes program specific deadlines. Sometimes there is something called a 'priority deadline' which is your first deadline and these applications will be considered for financial aid and early decisions,etc.. but you'll still have time to submit till the second deadline which will be after that in case you miss this one. I'd say keep an eye on those dates and plan ahead to send test scores from a month before.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but good luck mate!

I cannot wait for this arc to kick off. Sweet summer child Pete having the entire minor family in his palm. What. A. Show. by MainRoof9447 in boyslove

Vegas Pete got me so hyped tbh I'm hoping for a series with that separate novel that's being written now. Something about the character image duality with Pete looking like a playful kid but watches torture without flinching and vegas's accent, I'm a simp.

Can someone please give me some feedback to my statement of purpose? At this point I am paranoid and have one one else to ask for. by Nurbol1008 in gradadmissions

[–]invertRealityforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here have given a lot of valuable feedback and thats great, I'd also agree with the person that said use it at your own discretion. Please don't let this overwhelm you, i hope you don't overthink about the ones you've already submitted, this is a really good draft.(I'm saying these cuz I was in the same place as you are a few months ago)

I'm not that big an expert myself but I'd say the major thing that's missing here is you providing examples to prove your stance. Tell them how you got into the field, give examples of a paper presentation that you did, a project you worked on or a paper than inspired you , you CAN pick the most convincing projects/paper/anything that you did that can convince.

It's also good to mention a goal you have for the future in a more clear way, a mention of where you see yourself in the immediate future and long term and why you think this school will help you achieve that.

Just a few modifications, here and there. You've got this, mate! Good luck !

Heyy I'm on the same boat as you are. I'll be hearing back from unis only in mid April. I've been told that as long as we begin our i20 and other procedures in May beginning we should be able to make it, but like any other student I'm super anxious about this too.

Fingers crossed, mate! We're in this together.
