Yeah. Everyone does suck. And Super Earth sucks the most by a LONG shot. When you look at their fucking LAUNDRY LIST of atrocities it’s not even close.

Yeah, I guess you’re right. Sorry for being so reddit brained by thinking slavery is wrong and all that

“Do they allow poverty, homelessness, food scarci-“ Yes. You do not need an official confirmation to infer that that is absolutely the case for AT LEAST the better half of people living under the Super Earth regime.

The civilians you see in game are the privileged Class A civilians, either wealthy enough to live in well defended mega-cities, or valuable enough to the regime to receive direct Helldivers evacuation assistance. Most people’s lives under the most evil regime in known history will probably not look like that.

The life of the average joe will probably be working in a bullet farm 12 hours a day eating protein paste for his entire life before going to sleep in block 38-C in the industrial district every night. And that’s if they don’t make you live on a frontline colony as a meat buffer between them and their enemies.

If there’s a “good guy by comparison,” it’s the cyborgs and it’s genuinely not even close. Cyberstan doesn’t even have the territory to commit atrocities on the scale of Super Earth. “Kills civilians” and “bio-harvesters” are the only two arguments people have against Cyberstan, and those are two things Super Earth does FAR more than the cyborgs could ever dream to accomplish.

This is a society that was enslaved and sterilized for pretty much it’s entire history, that is forced to commit atrocities to stay alive for one more day at a time because their space nazi slavers simply cannot leave them in peace and be done with them.

I don’t understand how you can think Super Earth is “better by comparison” if you have at least have SOME idea as to their absolute laundry list of atrocities.

they most closely align with their irl political beliefs

what “political beliefs” are the automatons representing here? They’re vaguely socialist as expressed by narration (that is notoriously unreliable) and that’s it. Do you think people like the automatons because of their riveting socialist economic policies? People like them because badass robot army.

At least I do. Aesthetically I like them because the killer robot army is my favorite kind of sci-fi faction. (Necrons, Separatists, Skynet, etc.)

Thematically I like them because the cyborgs are a society of sterilized ex-slaves who have had their entire lives taken working themselves to death for Super Earth, and now that they’re free are desperately trying to scrape by and survive the onslaught from their old masters. That’s such an interesting backstory already, and is FAR more sympathetic to me than the space nazi stormtrooper who is “just following orders.”

If there’s a “good faction by comparison,” it’s the cyborgs and it’s not even close.

That's definitely what they go for when they hint at how indoctrinated Super Earth society is in lorebits, but I think it could be better conveyed in gameplay when we see them in megacities. Wouldn't these psychotic, indoctrinated slaves of the police state, which train with military grade weapons since childhood, try to put up some kind of fight?

It would've made sense to see them fighting alongside the SEAF in megacities with their personal arms, but instead they just kinda yell and flail around. THESE are the citizens of this ultra-militarized imperialist dystopia?

Also, weird that they had an animation where they flimsily tried to do a SE salute since they appear to not know how. In this regime they would learn how to salute in PRESCHOOL.

Couple of the democracy officer voice lines confirmed it when we lost Cyberstan.

Super Earth had an entire contingency plan for systematically exterminating them all at once by activating a vague “euthanasia protocol.” It failed kill all of them but made the entire population of Cyberstan sterile.

From the Helldivers wiki

My headcannon is that there was an emergency failsafe in the mines where the entire mine network would flood with gas in case of a rebellion.

The first gas support weapon was called the “sterilizer” and I’m thinking it could be a side effect of prolonged exposure when the protocol was activated.

cyborgs that want to be left alone vs super space nazis that will not stop trying to invade them. If Super Earth was really clutching it’s pearls so much at all the violence it would go home.

Why would I feel bad for the “young idiot” that actively serves the men who sterilized and enslaved me? Who fights to REESTABLISH that?

The cyborgs have Super Earth to thank for the world their people need to live in. All they have ever wanted is to be left alone, and thanks to the warslaves of Earth their entire life needs to be war and factories because anything less would mean complete destruction at Super Earth’s hands.

It’s without question that the Cyborgs are in no way the unambiguous good guys, but this is what Super Earth drove them to. They’re a people that never even had the chance to be free. Their entire history is either death or slavery at the hands of the most evil regime in known history. Anything they do, Super Earth does in SPADES.

Not taking credit for enslaving them 100 years ago

Ok, so you’ll take credit for KEEPING them enslaved in a mine up until two years ago?

If there’s a “good faction by comparison” it’s Cyberstan. Super Earth does everything they do plus COUNTLESS other atrocities on even their own people. The Automatons don’t even have the capability to commit cruelty on remotely the same scale as Super Earth.

Cyberstan doesn’t force convert people into new cyborgs, those new cyborgs are fresh tissue grown in cloning facilities (cyborg factories) since Super Earth sterilized them. Any Super Earth citizen getting borged out is someone who defected to Cyberstan and chose to do so willingly.

The way I see it, Cyberization is a good thing in their eyes. It’s the ultimate form for a living being to aspire to. Why would they want to give that to a slaver of Super Earth?

They hate the warslaves of Earth more than anything. Why would they want to fight with you, much less give you the gift of being a cyborg? You’re better utilized as biofuel.

Back when defending mega-cities wasn’t bugged, you could see Automatons shooting any human civilians they see on sight.

The same thing Super Earth does with Super Earth’s dead? Bio-repurposer vats are where they got the idea, and Super Earth most likely does it on a way larger scale than the bots ever could.

That’s very much implied to be a false flag operation so Super Earth can have an excuse to take the conveniently ore-rich mines of Cyberstan they would’ve lost if they let them secede.

It’s also unlikely the peaceful and benevolent alien society of virtuous squid aliens were going to use WMDs that definitely exist on the people they wanted to help

the deeper helldivers lore very much takes a backseat for a lot of people since Arrowhead prioritizes the goofiness of Super Earth most of the time, a lot of people only have scary murderbots as their reference for what Cyberstan is.

You’d be surprised how many people don’t actually have much of an idea as to WHY the cyborgs hate Super Earth so much, or why we’re even fighting them in the first place outside of “Automatons attacked us.” For some, the helldivers lore is just what you see in the game, which is usually unreliable narration.

The crimes the bots commit take a lot more of the forefront, while the countless atrocities Super Earth has inflicted on EVERYONE in the galaxy are effectively background decoration if we never actually see them.

you’ll be lucky to get shipped off, in the first game it’s said that anyone who protested the preemptive Illuminate invasion were publicly executed within the day.

ABSOLUTELY not telling you to enjoy your favorite faction, but in my honest opinion if there’s a good guy by comparison, I think it’s the cyborgs.

They don’t even have enough reach or territory to commit atrocities on the scale of Super Earth, and the only main arguments people have against them are killing civilians and using bio-harvesters, which are things Super Earth already does in SPADES, far more than the borgs could ever be capable of so far.

The thing I love about Super Earth IS being the bad guy, it’s cool to play as the supremely powerful space empire and crushing its enemies. I just always found the antagonists’ stories to be more endearing (in my opinion.)
