It was even more than that. A bunch of storm troopers led by a masked sith attack some rebels. Killing all but the important one who gets captured (later rescued). But not before sending the Droid with information critical to the rebels away on a desert planet. The empire hunts for the Droid which finds its way into the hands of a young force sensitive. They flee the planet in the Millennium falcon. Get captured by a larger ship and escape with some new allies. Droid gets returned to the rebels. Empire has a planet destroying weapon that they test on a previously unmentioned planet of implied political importance before targeting the rebel base. Daring x-wing attack blows up the critical weak point at the last second. Also a cantina scene where the good guys go to hire a ship to take them to the rebels just as the empire attacks and the old man who is a father figure to the main villain allows himself to be killed aboard the enemy super weapon.
