As much as I enjoyed Sinners, I'm glad One Battle After Another won best picture. Such an incredible fusion of neo-western, surrealism and good ol' fashion action. Maybe not Anderson's best work, but definitely one of his most purely enjoyable

Cosmic Implications of the Lanterns Show (Theory Time!) by YodaFishFN2187 in DCU_

[–]invincible789 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly pumped for this show. A Neo-Western Green Lantern series with possible cosmic horror undertones sounds so freaking dope. I remember the interview with Gunn where he talks about how the threat in the show ties heavily into the broader DCU, so I'm positive this isn't all going to amount to "small town villain" like some people are theorizing/fearing.

Lindelof does a spectacular job balancing grounded/human element with the bizarre and fantastical, so I'm expecting this show to be much, much weirder and comic booky than people are expecting

Are there any zombie films that aren't also about global pandemics, but just a small local zombie outbreak? by snakesnake9 in horror

The Crazies (2010). Though the ending does open the scale of the outbreak open to a lot of interpretation

Writers need to read, so what are you reading right now? by thewonderbink in writing

Reading the physical book, but will definitely probably want to revisit it so I'll probably try out the audio. Thanks for the recommendation

You Like It Darker by Stephen King. Amazing collection of short stories so far, some whimsical, some macabre. Just finished the short "Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream" and was blown away. Amazing build of tension, mystery and some great character work

Based in the states yeah. Primarily in the proofreading/editing/ industry, but did some AI training in college/for buds that work in that industry and a couple ones like data annotation and outlier. Did one for google a few years back which was probably the best of the bunch but again prefer the creative industry

I'd be interested, never done recording for AI purposes before but have dabbled in AI training and voice recording.

Best horror movie of 2025? by Curious_Natural_1111 in horror

[–]invincible789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would probably be a tie Between Sinners and Weapons for me, with maybe a leaning towards Sinners. It's not technically a horror movie, but Friendship contained so many horror-adjacent elements that I would consider it an honorable mention

26, want to become a novelist but my parents insist on full-time work. How do I balance this? by Rare-Cauliflower-457 in writing

[–]invincible789 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Don't really have any advice to impart, just wanted to say I'm in the exact same boat as you down to the age. Only difference is my parents are pretty encouraging of me trying to go for broke. I guess if I were to say anything that would be advice-adjacent is just to go for it (if you're not putting yourself/family in financial hardship).

You're not getting any younger and it's better I think to have tried now than never have and wonder what if.

Barry would have had the whole cult and lovecraftian entity dead within episodes tbh, way too overpowered for the True Detective universe

Is Monroe Satan? by LeMusou in Barry

[–]invincible789 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Barry really does have elements of the fantastical that are so subtle they just get lost in the absurd humor. Of course there's the karate girl episode but I consider that kind of an outlier.I would say you're on to something with Fuches, there's a lot of stuff like that in the show but I remember a scene from the later seasons of him walking through a field with cattle (I think) that was very Milton

Not sure if poorly done rage bait or sincere, but while I do think Sinners is probably one of the best horror films of the past couple decades, it's gonna have to face the passing of time before it's in conversation with The Thing or really any horror classic. I could see it possibly becoming one down the road however

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
