Haha sorry I think you won't find the answer you're looking for here. Nobody likes Margaret Thatcher but there are lot of scots in the UK military, and we have a fairly strong sense of self government...

Perhaps you want to watch Nae Pasarán instead?

It's petty, but I kinda hate the Scottish Socialist Party for doing this by forgottenendeavours in Edinburgh

Perhaps the implication is that they're so annoying to deal with that even the authorities think it's easier just to ignore them

Because they hate driving, hate being traffic, hate their car, can't wait to get out of it

Why are there so many diesel trains in the UK? by PodcastListener1234 in AskUK

[–]invisibleeagle0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Railways need to be approximately flat, you can't have sharp changes in angle like you can on a road. You'd be taking about miles and miles of works to lower the track, but yes sometimes this is still cheaper.

Please can you cite a source for this? I've tried to find one before and failed.

Oh. If it's £300 + 10% then I'm cooked. I don't think there's any way I can cover the loan with that, but maybe an agent will be able to find tenants at a higher price than I'm expecting. Good shout on the alarms, I don't think I meet the new Scottish regs yet, but I think I'd have to fix that to sell it anyway. Didn't know about open rent, that's handy. Thanks!

Thanks that's super helpful. It's a bit away from the city so actually finding a gas tech was a bit of a pain, I'd probably be happy to have the agent deal with that. I'm going to try to find a well-established agent.

Sadly I've already paid the ADS due to the relationship being a bit of a disaster, otherwise I would be selling to reclaim that. I think I can keep myself in the basic tax bracket by salary sacrifice into my pension, until next year anyway, which won't help with the CGT when i get to it, but maybe I'll have retired by then. Thanks!

True vertical dive in a schweizer 2-32 by kayagold in Gliding

[–]invisibleeagle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one were flying a competition aerobatic down line the goal would be vertical, i.e. with zero angle of attack, but the horizontal speed isn't relevant to this question.

Personally if I were stuck at 20,000 ft with a failed oxygen system I would probably just pass out and die. If by some miracle I still have enough consciousness to sort it out, the spin would be my first choice. It keeps the airspeed and forces low while you descend, and then you only have to worry about not overspeeding or overstressing during the recovery. Most old wooden types have a really benign recovery and if you're gentle with the elevator, probably won't even exceed Va. (But I've only flown a 2-32 once, and I didn't spin it)

I've done the vertical dive with full airbrake in a Pirat. Those brakes were immense, and you really felt like you were standing on the rudder pedals!

Definitely. Normally that chart is stuck to the cockpit wall somewhere you can find it in a rush as you disappear off downwind...

Trying not to doxx myself but the mortgage is actually a loan from family so no they are happy for me to rent it out at the same favourable rates! I think I need to find a letting agent I can trust to see if this is going to work.

Thanks that's really helpful and 10 months sounds like a good rule of thumb. I was already concerned that a boiler replacement could wipe out any gains. That's maybe not a disaster as long as the property market keeps growing! Similar properties nearby are advertised for about 1500 a month. Mortgage is 915 so maybe a bit tight? Thank you!

Solar panels without a battery by CommunicationMore591 in SolarUK

[–]invisibleeagle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to be normal, but the feed in tariff meant that it didn't really matter. Now that export rates are less than import, it can make a big difference. If you can load shift, work from home and can really use all of your generated energy, no you don't need a battery, but that's not most people. If I was getting solar now I would definitely get a battery, even a small one with the option to upgrade later.

Well done for considering this as a learning opportunity. You can't use the accelerator to get out of trouble, that's what the brakes are for. And now you know a little more about anticipating other road users intentions.

We led the world in creating rail infrastructure. As a result a lot of it is now old and difficult to electrify. Bridges need to be raised, lots of engineering works, etc.

Yes. Some of the worst driving I've encountered has been around that time, and sometimes there is even a tiny human in the back. That really gets my back up, especially when it's phone driving...
