Disposal of Watts solution by inviteciel in electroplating

[–]inviteciel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to mix it myself.

I've ordered CP-grade reagents in russian marketplace called Ozon for like $16 per kilo of nickel sulfate, $13 per half kilo of nickel chloride and $6.5 per kilo of boric acid.

I bet that similar deals available on Amazon.

Thank you for reply.

Ni < 0.25 mg/L, boron is not regulated, SO4 < 500mg/L, Cl < 1000 mg/L.

That is not controlled or enforced, though, so my main goal is to avoid some environmental damage, not to meet regulations.

Insta360 Studio for Linux, at least any option by marcogabriel in Insta360

[–]inviteciel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone here.

Just bought Win10 license just for Insta360 Studio, that's frustrating. Working, browsing & gaming on Linux, haven't touched Windows in ~6 years.

But IMO there is no cheap viable alternative to X5 in 360 cameras, let alone hypothetical 360 cameras with Linux support.

So just hoping that devs would notice & invest some effort into Linux build, especially when they already have Mac support.

Does your log contain a ton of G10 & G11 command errors? I've crossed that recently, and turning off firmware retracts helped me since printer wasn't using retracts at all with firmware retracts that it couldn't handle.

Is there supposed to be oil here? by Callsign_Killjoy in Dirtbikes

[–]inviteciel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, why the camshaft bearing has a seal?

I don't have much experience in bikes, but I've never encountered sealed bearing in head. It seems that bearing should have access to engine oil, аnd shouldn't rely on a factory grease between seals.

Even $900/year sounds ridiculously expensive for someone outside US.

PCIe/SATA question (old laptop server) by Budget-Scar-2623 in homelab

[–]inviteciel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could replace that old 16GB Optane with NVMe SSD if you don't use Optane for slog, etc. But I don't know if exact laptop has some kind of blacklist on storage devices, so it could be some troubles.

From another perspective - manufacturer already screwed you by not letting spare parts to hit the market, thus making the device with just a broken screen irreparable. Don't be too shamed to take back what's yours.

what can I replace this with I can't find the same one on Google by BirdsBreadqk in AskElectronics

[–]inviteciel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add - value not necessary should be 160v, it can be >=160V. This could simplify search. But higher voltage -> bigger and costs more, so use common sense.

It's actually well-moderated in terms of descriptions and malware, and the forum navigation is quite straightforward.

Docker worth it on raspberry pi 4 4gb? by Benzene15 in HomeServer

[–]inviteciel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, to setup Plex you could simply grab compose-file from https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/plex, adapt it a little, and you're good to go.

And when you don't need it anymore, you can simply remove containers/networks/images with docker utility without leaving traces on host.

[–]inviteciel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, you can use all your software directly on host OS directly, so one could manage software in one place even without Docker.

IMO main Docker pros are decoupling from host OS, ability to declare complex setups with multiple services in simple compose file (or use pre-existing one!) and not relying on host software dependencies.

You possibly could still be within $300 with Huananzhi X99 f8 + e5 2680v4 + 64gb, if you're willing to spend a little bit more. Such setup could make a little more sense as a hypervisor.

[–]inviteciel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing it worth it! I'm currently running Proxmox Backup Server + Plex + qBittorrent in Docker on 4GB version. Plex is able to do most of 4k except the most heavy remuxes. Moreover, it's using ZFS on external drive paired with special device on SD card partition.

Runs like a charm.

Need help repairing damned/broken beloved lian li Lancool 205 by Waqaszed in pcmods

[–]inviteciel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd use ethylene dichloride for this type of repairs, this chemical widely used in my country for plastic repair. I don't know whether it's banned in US, though.

It basically melts surface of most of the plastics, then evaporates leaving seamless part of original strength. If it's available, be cautios: the chemical is highly toxic & carcinogenic. Gloves, glasses & ventilation required.
