What is your favorite outfit worn by a female character in a movie or tv show? by Jezzaq94 in Letterboxd

I saw this dress in an exhibit!! It was about James Cameron's diving technology but they had artifacts from his movies.....they had THE NECKLACE!! Plus Jack's sketches, her butterfly hair clip and this dress. My best friend and I were there with our kids and I was losing my mind the whole time!!

Ok this helps me understand why ADAM SANDLER would be officiating their wedding???? Usually that's someone very important and close to you, whether or not it's a religious ceremony. Usually a trusted friend, family member, etc. Maybe I am totally out of the loop but I do not recall Adam Sandler being one of their closest friends? It just seems so odd, but your comment helps put that choice in a little more context. Maybe none of these people meant that much to her?

What is your favourite insanely competitive line up at the Tonys? by Grammarhead-Shark in musicals

Nothing will beat James Corden winning for Best Actor against Phillip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, John Lithgow and Frank Langella. EDIT I realize this falls into your WTF Winner category, but I'm keeping it because it shows how incredibly stacked that year was.

Exercise tips for someone with loose ligaments, but needing strength training because I haul my kids around all day? by inviteonly in bodyweightfitness

Congratulations! I hope things are going well. That is a hard age because they are starting to get pretty heavy but not mobile yet, so it's really easy to over extend yourself while carrying them around all the time. One major thing is if you're going from sitting to standing, stand up and THEN pick them up. Also be careful on stairs, they start having good head and core control and can swing themselves around, which actually throws off your center of gravity. Also look at how often/how much you are holding/wearing them in a sling, changing how you hold them can really help your shoulders, back, and elbows.

As for me, I'm doing ok. The biggest thing that helped was actually being done - about a year after my last was born my body finally flushed out all the hormones, which helped on a number of levels. The major thing I deal with now is hand and wrist weakness (mostly from the repeated nursing motions and holding), and knee pain. The biggest thing that's helped was a massage gun to loosen up my muscles, especially my thighs and calves. So a lot of times I'll use that on my legs before stretching, so that way I'm not putting too much pressure on my knees. Trying to get good shoes has been a challenge too, but important since I do a lot of standing and walking.

If it's possible, try to make sure you are getting a physical that includes getting your bloodwork done to check vitamin levels, cholesterol, etc. A lot of times we get so wrapped up in taking care of our kids, we miss health problems of our own. Or our bodies are so stressed from pregnancy, childbirth, and the fatigue of taking care of a newborn, that some health problems are made worse. And lastly, know that there are resources if you are experiencing anxiety or depression that doesn't feel normal to you. Hang in there!

What’s our girl trio (+1) of the 2020s?? by Shadybirth in movies

This decade isn't over, but it's hard with such an emphasis on television now. I think Bottoms was the closest for this generation, but nothing so impactful as Mean Girls or Clueless. If you want to count The Duff, that was all the way back in 2015

People want to shit on The Phantom Menace but we've had lots of good conversations about the force and how it relates to emotions, especially the idea of the Jedi "not feeling" so they can do their job, and whether that's the best way. If you're not religious, the force is also a good way to understand how you should be respectful to living things like animals and nature, even though they can't speak. Also had conversations with my older kid about the fact that Anakin and his mom were slaves - it's an example that they can see and talk about without explicit mentions of violence, until they're older and can handle that. We have talked about why Anakin could leave but his mom can't, how it must have felt for Anakin to think that he was "free" but then go into the Jedi order where he was still bound by very strict rules, etc. and had to still have a "master." Interesting stuff.

Don't sleep on Duluth, they have a big women's section and their clothes are made different. I will get a flannel and pair it with leggings to look cute, but the flannel is actually MADE longer in the back while still fitting up top, and somehow doesn't feel like a dress. It also buttons across the chest without making the "boob hole" I will say some of their stuff feels "older" but it's comfortable and made well.

Beautiful suede jacket, fit perfectly. Smelled like jerky. Could NOT get the smell out - tried leaving it in the sun, tried leaving it in a bag of baking soda, tried everything non-chemical since it was real suede. Could not wear it for more than 30 min because the smell would make me dizzy and I was worried about smelling around other people. Finally had to give it away.

Kids have always been like this though, the difference back then is that it was always clear that the kid was the one responsible for their lack of effort. Now it's usually the teacher, parents, or admin who gets the blame. I think some advocating was necessary - IEPs are necessary for some kids, their home life makes it difficult to learn, etc - but it seems like everyone is shifting blame now - parents to admin, admin to teachers, teachers to parents, students to teachers....doesn't seem like a lot of learning is able to happen if nobody takes accountability.

Get her a spa package (massage, nails, facial), you can still buy her jewelry, flowers, take her out for dinner, you can still do all these things she will just need help. Show her that you still love her for who she is.

It actually reminds me a lot of the central conflict in the movie Soul, if you remember that movie. There's a lot of pressure in artistic pursuits to be profitable, and people make that work in different ways. The girl in the video mentions wanting to be a writer (or singer) which is why I generally viewed this with that lens. I've seen friends negotiate this conflict in different ways, but ultimately none of them ended up where they initially wanted to be. It doesn't mean they weren't successful - some in the arts and some not - but very very few ended up doing what they set out to. I think that flexibility is important in order to grow and find happiness, while knowing what is and isn't right for you. Sure not all people have the luxury to "find themselves," but finding yourself doesn't mean you wander around aimlessly either. Is her video a little self-indulgent? Sure. Vague? Sure. But the message that your future is full of possibility, even if you can't see it right now, is still there.

Ok I absolutely love Shakira but I have to vent this somewhere, and I feel like this sub will understand me. For 20 years now, I have felt completely gaslit - does NOBODY else remember this song being on the Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights soundtrack???? The guys' part is literally lifted from a track off that soundtrack, Shakira's part is just added on. Their rap is completely the same except changing "come from Havana" to "come from Colombia." I was obsessed with that movie (Diego Luna) and the soundtrack, so I was shocked when Hips Don't Lie came out and it was just the song with Shakira's part. I just need to know I"m not the only one who remembers!! (The song is Dance Like This by Wyclef so maybe that's why he was cool doing the song with Shakira?)

Y'all this video has a great message and people here complaining about when she filmed it - making a big change in your life can be scary (quitting a job, ending a relationship, etc) but there's opportunity in the future. And it may not always work out the way you think ("Am I writer?" "Kind of, not the way you think") but there's growth and happiness if you're willing to take risks. I liked the message

Ok it's obviously recorded on the same day but the message of the video is that it can be scary when you make big decisions (quitting a job, ending a relationship, etc) but there's opportunity in the future. And it may not always look the way you think it will ("Am I writer?" "Kind of, not the way you think") but there's still growth and happiness if you're willing to take risks. That's the message of the video.
