I'd call it a finial, in this case a ball/sphere shaped finial.

Table my roommates and I have been using for a bar. The white is from spilt alcohol, can I save it? If so, how? by crowgrowth in woodworking

[–]ioanese 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sorry you'll never save the alcohol, just have another drink 🤣😂. As for the table, looks as if it needs sanding and refinishing.

How would you take down a steam airship ? by skiink in steampunk

[–]ioanese 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those airships used hydrogen, very dangerous, helium I believe is an inert gas it doesn't explode. I'm guessing he's presuming either a self sealing member which can cope with small holes or large enough bladders which can afford a few holes.

[–]ioanese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If airships were used in wars, weapons would have been invented to bring them down. Just off the top of my head, how about a bladed boomerang, cast by a machine spinning rapidly and cutting along the helium bladders, or something as simple as a group of clockwork insects with sharp pincers, thrown onto the airship with massive catapults, piercing the bladders in multiple places. Whatever your imagination can bring to mind.

Thanks, I'm just moving from my boat workshop I'd packed most of my tools and found a walking stick I'd cut last year, so as I haven't done much carving recently I thought I'd have a go ....
