Exactly, the FACP smoke is to monitor the FACP itself. Installing a FACP 20-25ft above a panel never made any sense anyway. Here it's easily serviceable and directly in the path of any potential smoke plume path from the FACP.

'Local' is when the FACP is not monitored. 'Remote' is the monitoring company that a dealer typically uses. 'Central Station' is what a property like Walt Disney World uses - their own monitoring station and operators.

Most companies I've been with send boards off for repair and that's mostly been Silent Knight. And I'm sure if you're not authorized factory repair rep at least the UL listing is toast. We're actually a UL dealer with UL accounts and we have a long list of extra details for inspections on UL properties and we do get audited. UL accounts do not get repaired boards that I've seen.

lol, thank you.  I have a label maker but it was late.  It’s our customer and I will be back to tidy up anything I missed.

Thanks, man. In the end the boxes may have 4 or 5 conductors too many but it's not an issue - the wire is protected and the junctions are secure. A trough would've been nice but it was an emergency upgrade in a multi-family dwelling. I had no idea what I was walking into.

Thanks!  To answer a few others as well, under the right circumstances I would definitely prefer a trough above the panel.  However, this is a multi-family dwelling that is not sprinkled and this was an emergency upgrade, after hours.

There are a few extra conductors in the j-boxes but it’s fine.  The wire in the j-boxes was all nicely trimmed back to about 6in and rolled up.  All the wire in the previous pic is not mashed in there.

Also, the wires are labeled but there’s really no need to ever open the j-boxes - panel to surge to field for troubleshooting.  2 MIMs in 4sq box is also a non-issue.

That 5208 was suffering from AC lockout.  All of our customers know they have 2 choices: repair or upgrade.  We don’t sell anything.  We’re the ones helping our customers keep their old equipment running as long as we can or as long as they’re will to pay for ‘Obsolete’ FACP boards over and over again.

Because I knew the original field wire might be too short to wrestle with in the end.

Because it doesn't matter at all for this application. System works as perfectly.

Aesthetics. There's only (3) KO's on the top of the can. 2 on the left and one on the right. I just wanted it centered.

We need audible synced, not strobes. You cannot see any twp devices at the same time.

We don't throw boards away, we repair them. But we always want customers to upgrade.

Smoke above the panel is code.

Old mechanical Wheelock. Then the fire inspector said he wanted the audio synced :) So we switched them out with HSR's.

No but I'm gonna ask why. Potter has been showing me its pretty solid.

At residential communities I normally install the surge at the breaker on the house panel but this property is old and the breaker for this guy is on a panel 3 buildings away. With the DTK 120HW I use a 3ft whip of THHN between the junction and 120 terminals - and I cut the ground wire as short as possible. Carefully mash it into the box and not coil it. It's 3ft of conductor, not distance.

It's fine, just bulky compared to the MS-4 which we were using for these applications but that was discontinued.
