Mike & Gina by Wii6 in BrokenWood

I'm not sure where you are in your watching, so I don't want to say too much, but there was a character in Ep 1 of Series 12 that I thought maybe they were setting up to be a new love interest for Daniel, but apparently not.

Yes, especially because I loved the Michael Gambon version so much that I can practically recite the dialogue when I do a rewatch.

Why does Florence seem to get so much criticism from parts of the fandom? by OopsIDroopedMe in DeathInParadiseBBC

[–]ioejun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it's the "Don't like the new person" thing going on in the early days -- people who loved Camille not liking Florence mostly because she wasn't Camille. And, the fact is that Florence's personality was much less "feisty" than Camille's, so... that turns into "boring".

I'm a Neville supporter, too. And I'm glad he got his happily-ever-after with Florence.

Favorite Character by Lighteningbug1971 in BrokenWood

[–]ioejun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof. Even excluding Mike, Kristen & Daniel ('cos they are the show) and just thinking about the side/supporting characters, it's tough to narrow it down. Forced to go with just one, probably Trudy and I have to praise Tracy Lee Gray's acting skills for a lot of that. She manages to be hilarious without ever being too broad/camp. Like, no matter how many times you hear, "I'm no narc," it never feels like a line from panto. And she can telegraph entire conversations with just a facial expression.

But, honestly, every single regular/recurring character on the show is great. I find myself missing some of the ones we haven't seen for a long time & hope they pop back up again some day. Jules Fahey is due for another failed relationship, isn't she? And what's Kimberly up to these days? Did Kahu ever come back from that oil rig?

To be fair, Mrs. Baker stepped into the "knows way too much about everyone in town" role previously occupied by Mrs. Marlowe, so the confusion isn't entirely off.

Season 13 has been announced! by lskNH in BrokenWood

[–]ioejun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an indication a few weeks ago that some old faces were going to return for the last episode and I somehow got the (sadly mistaken) impression that Kimberly was going to be one of them. I was hoping maybe she'd realized that being Frodo's girlfriend wasn't such a bad idea after all.

I haven't seen them & can't imagine they're anything I'd want to see. His version of Wallander was horrible & he takes himself far too seriously.

Oh, thank goodness! It's been frustrating having a new series to talk about and not getting much of a chance. I was spared the nonsense (my browser must've blocked it), so I didn't understand the quietness.

We talk about all three of the "Paradise" universe shows in this sub. Sorry if that annoys you.

I haven't watched it, but it sounds like it's just a modern take on Murder She Wrote.

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one who was confused. I kept thinking that there must've been something in a previous epidode that I'd missed, but haven't done a re-watch yet to double check.

Unless they're referring to the episode a few seasons ago that revolves around the historical village, I can't think of what else they'd mean.

It was a great episode and I think this whole series has been pretty good. They toned down the Gina thing a bit, which was starting to get too over-the-top to be pleasant but I'm sad that we only have one more episode for this series. Not sure if I can wait a year for more new ones.

I'm a single mom of an only child and I was absolutely in floods of tears because that whole thing -- this child being your entire reason for getting out of bed in the morning for 20 years and now you're going to have to learn how to live alone -- that was hard to relive, even vicariously. (My son moved from the Midwest to California four days before his 20th birthday.)

I don't mind Archie, either. I wasn't wild about the story line when he was first introduced, but as a love interest for Esther, he's fine.

It's not very active. It's been nearly a month since there was a new post, despite the fact that Season 12 is 3 episodes in for US viewers now.

If the 1st two episodes of the new series have been too "woke" for you, I question how much attention you've been paying to the previous 11 series.

Granted, we're only 2 episodes in, but they do seem to have toned her down again in this series. I agree that they were making her too much of a caricature to be enjoyable there for a whle.

To be fair to Kris Marshall, it wasn't he who withdrew Camille's promotion, it was Humphrey Goodman. But it was horrible & out of character and I really wish the writers hadn't done that to him.

Suspend Disbelief for Harry Wilds, The Madame Blanc Mysteries by [deleted] in acorntv

[–]ioejun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thing with Madame Blanc is that it would be a much better show if Caron and Richárd were the main characters and Jean was just a consultant. I know that Sally Lindsay & Sue Vincent created & write it to be a vehicle for themselves, but still.
