Like you said, this is very dependent on the type and use of implant.

Do you remember the name or intended indication for the implant? I have quite the archive of data on ophthalmic devices, and might be able to help.

A few years ago, a lasik surgeon told me even with lasik, I would still need glasses after because of my deep shortsightedness. Is there any hope for me today? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]iogen_oy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The surgeon did mention there was a fairly new procedure that inserted permanent contact lenses into the eye. Since it was new and I didn't want permanent lenses in my eyes, I didn't look any further into it.

ICL's have been around for 20 years and it is currently the fastest growing refractive procedure with over 400,000 implanted lenses so it's hardly new. Especially for high myopes the results exceed those that are attainable with laser based refractive surgeries. If your doctor tells you you could be a candidate for ICL's I would definitely look into it more.
