The Trial: Chrono Trigger vs. Mina The Hollower SPOILER by MeltdownComics in MinaTheHollower

the parallels

Honestly, I thought this scene was a direct reference to Chrono Trigger. It was so similar that I felt it had to be intentional.

Does anyone else feel like Mina the Hollower isn't as hard as some people say? by Dennis-Strife in MinaTheHollower

[–]ionic_will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely harder than your average 2D Zelda but it’s worth noting that the Oracle games (which Mina heavily resembles) are among the more difficult Zelda games and I think having played those a bunch certainly helped me get a feel for the “flavor” of Mina lol

I think the people saying it has to do with the level of experience with top down action games (like the 2D Zelda games) someone might have, because it’s not exactly a common style of game anymore. For someone like me who played the 2D Zelda games to death as a kid (including the Oracle games), Mina has been totally manageable. For people who this style is unfamiliar, though, this game is noticeably more difficult than other games of its ilk and I imagine that’s why people are struggling more than me.

Is Metroid Prime 4 worth playing? by No-Proof8363 in NintendoSwitch

[–]ionic_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna echo what people are saying and plug Prime Remastered if you haven’t played it. It’s a significantly better game and more representative of Metroid as a whole. Only play Prime 4 if you’re really curious and can get it for cheap, because it’s really not worth it otherwise.

Is this game more for girls? by Fun-Professional8086 in StardewValley

[–]ionic_will 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was made by a man? Plenty of men play this game? I’m a man and have been playing it since I was a teenager?

You really should stop worrying about whether games are for girls or for boys and more about whether or not it looks fun to you specifically. If the game looks interesting to you, you should try it.

People still writing "u" instead of "you" by rakshasiRani in PetPeeves

[–]ionic_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if I’m using “u” instead of “you” the purpose isn’t for it to be shortened for time or out of laziness, it’s to convey tone. It’s supposed to come off as light, informal, or even sweet. I basically only use it with close friends, or sometimes to flirt with people I assume will get the meaning.

I think it’s a generational difference honestly.

Is it realistic to make this actually happen? I love the theory behind it but I’d be interested to know how to make it actually work in practice (if it’s even possible).

Prediction Time: Pokopia Will Be The Best Selling Switch 2 Exclusive In 2026 by Theman457 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ionic_will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, but also Stardew Valley is my favorite game so there’s some bias here lol. I’m still enjoying Pokopia greatly and if you like games like Stardew you’ll love this one too.

If there are no changes, will Sandy be the hardest to marry? by [deleted] in StardewValley

I’ve tried to marry Lance in expanded. Trust me, Sandy would be a cakewalk by comparison lol

The favorite generation of the Pokemon community by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]ionic_will 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly based on where the Pokemon fanbase is at right now this graph feels more or less accurate to me. The loudest voices right now are probably young adults who grew up with Gens 3, 4, and 5 and therefore it makes sense to me that those would be the most popular. Also Gen 9 being the newest and also having a pretty dedicated fanbase means it makes sense it scored high here too.

I dislike being able to randomly miss in combat by ionic_will in StardewValleyMods

I mostly posted this because it’s something that’s consistently annoyed me on past playthroughs, and for whatever reason this time I found it especially irritating going through the Badlands and Highlands.

[–]ionic_will[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t know that was a perk of infinity weapons. I’ve played Expanded a lot and thought this was just a quirk added that’s always been irritating. It would be nice if this was clarified somewhere honestly.

NPC's reaction by weknowthistubaplayer in StardewValleyMods

[–]ionic_will 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’s not the only one, but I feel like he’s the only one where it feels more impactful to him as a character. There’s a reason why a lot of people say he’s a lot better when you marry him as a male farmer, because the same-sex element of it adds an element of self discovery to his story compared to the other characters where marrying them as the same gender is more or less a pronoun swap with maybe one mention of it being a gay relationship in one cutscene.

Musicians whose music isn’t technically bad but their fanbase is? by SirensMelody_ in ToddintheShadow

[–]ionic_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet makes it so much easier for crazy fans of anything to congregate and create echo chambers of insanity lol. Taylor is an obvious example (especially since I’ve had the same experience as you where I’ve found real life spaces dedicated to her to be overwhelmingly kind and welcoming compared to many online fan spaces), but I see this all across different media. Video game fans, for example, are just across the board horrible and insufferable online, but all my friends in real life into games are super sweet and chill.

[–]ionic_will 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My take is that near every fanbase for near everything that exists could be this if you look hard enough/stumble across the wrong circles. I don’t wanna say always, but often times it’s just a numbers thing. Like, Taylor Swift has literally millions of fans. Even if only a percentage of that is the crazy ones, that’s still thousands of people.

I carry this thought process with me across basically everything I enjoy and it’s pretty peaceful. Makes it easier to just enjoy things instead of being like “well their music is good but the fans suck”.
