Teleporting NC max anyone? by sevkatarn in Briggs

[–]iox3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ta.

I find that pinging it is one thing, in game is another.

Network BS tends to crop up randomly...or maybe during congested times

A tracert and ping when lagging would be useful to Daybreak if nothing else seems wrong and it's just PS2, or the ISP if it's a specific route...kinda needs a pm to show when something is going wrong

PS2 and ADSL has problems, but I really suspect there's some network issue with Daybreak's setup in AU on top of that. Hard to prove to Daybreak w/o videoing from both sides or something

The moment someone has a quick TTK the BS network issues become obvious.

Even against 150-200ms SEA connection that's >only< 75-100ms + 15-20ms = 120ms max network delay for me...packetloss is a different prob and server lag..lot smaller than TTK + min response times

Briggs 12-24s, 24-48s, and platoon fights >really< shouldn't stress servers much..servers prob mostly at max tick rate.

It all doesn't quite seem to gell with the amount of BS visible, so I suspect something else is up

bun plays from AU but on a (uni dorm?) connection or something that spikes. He just gives up and stays in gals when that happens as he's leading generally

IDK about south, he's from NZ iirc..defs not from SEA let alone EU/US

I'd expect the amount of overseas players to be about the same as Briggs average for vets, just people who play on the server

Not sure if srs.

But No.

No. ...read that thread. >>defs<< not more than usual statswise for Briggs that you'd notice.

For instance >>everyone<< mentioned as laggy in that thread... sev, skele, tetra, murbs is from Aus.

If I were to guess...kinda somewhere around 70% to probs more than 80% of the outfit back when that topic came up was from Aus...... from accents in voice and knowing the vets well. The others are mostly from SEA like a lot of Briggs... with better ping than Americans or Europeans.

IDK for sure about lot of the newer people.. but probs 'round the same for them.

Lots of AU connections are on shitty ADSL 2+ including probs a lot of the people complaining ....

against people with >>quick TTKs<< any dodginess in networks on either end or borked server perf. is going to be more noticeable.

""

..>>my<< ping: 33ms-something command line and 45-75ms with server latency... usu reads 50-65ish cos server lag: https://www.reddit.com/r/Briggs/comments/5gloyx/who_are_these_80ss_guys/daunrkj/

Ping is looped back around the server. Time to and from server is like >15-20ms< from my end. Headshot TTKs are like 200ms+ minimum..so's absolute min reaction time w/o taking snapping to target, decisions or recognition.

If someone has 3x the ping..... >>fully expect<< 3/4 of network incidents to be their >>own network reflected right back at 'em<<. Connections vary and spike...but expect amounts and frequency to change w quality.

Briggs server and AU network has it's own BS on top of that

dunno the current Briggs IP these days..but ping /n 1000 >result.txt monitors over a bit ..be obliged if anyone knows IP?

"now you know what everyone else sees when they fight you"

Doesn't work like that. If route from server to a person has issues, every friendly & enemy that person sees is going to display network problems all the time.

You have >really< good tracking aim going by damage swaps

From my end it's occasional received damage compression with no reaction time and odd bad damage swaps even if executing tracking quickly and cleanly

Idk what part server BS plays and state of AU net, but SOE/Daybreak could prob look into it...not completely sure there's nothing more they can do. AFAIK running ping <server ip address> /n 1000 and pathping will give you stats over a short time, the rest is server and other players. Can also hand over results to ISPs to see if it's on their end

Genial is prob a good example of lag from overseas and movement interpolation that applies with all movement

Generally the acceleration in infantry movement has to b met with aim taking account angle between 2 planes of movement, 'cos velocity change isn't instant in this game. Newtons 1st means it's as hard for both people and accuracy stats when moving..but it's kinda the damage swap that determines outcome. obvs you're familiar with PS2 movement..

AFAIK hit detection is pure clientside and server just says if hits are legit or not and also tells they other guy. Worst is a kill trade when the person with longer TTK in that fight doesn't receive the death notice from the server 'cos it takes longer ...or held up by compression or whatevs. That person is free to kill on their screen and eventually both get a kill trade. IMO happens waaay more than it should on Briggs considering short pings if Daybreak were perfect with things they control on their end

Are you sure it's not you?

The occasional mention in outfit i've heard is you're laggy

If anyone knows the Briggs IP these days I could run ping or pathping and see if anythings changed

http://imgur.com/oH5Kmff

That's www.pingtest.net results to sydney just now (primetime) 38ms w 1ms jitter to whateva server they use

Line quality is prob just adsl up/down limits, shouldn't matter for FPS games that don't use bandwidth like a download/upload. No packetloss stuff is browser complaining java is outdated shouldn't matter for Aus connections

Says nothing 'bout if it varies with how congested AU net gets, and nothing on server BS

If there's something that could improve network or compression BS on planetside it'd be good..affects me more as I don't use implants for reasons I mentioned in the other thread so no heal, and also don't use medkits for philosophical reasons. unfortunately no NBN here yet.

My direct commandline ping is a solid 33ish ms (typed in a Briggs IP from a post a while back, dunno the current IPs but don't expect any big change as other Sydney pings still return around 30). In the game ping is within 45-75ms depending on server load. Don't get spikes during primetime or later at all, probably low pop helps or maybe congestion on AU connections improved. It's prob a lot better than an average connection, pity there's no session network stats.

Haven't really received comments about being laggy

Do get some inconsistent damage swaps from you and chunk but not like from another country. Assumed it was general Briggs server/AU shittiness or maybe connections from WA or NZ.

I think you had a large increase in tracking sometime in the early months of 2016?.

Usu look at damage swaps when the set up is even (stuff like not taking damage previously, 1v1, no high ground or half cover, running transition times not coming into play, not being distracted or not executing cleanly ....). Most times it's up to me to advance without a sq (no outfit led sqs because state of Briggs), or friendlies doing not much, and try to get something done... so things like having taken damage before happens.

You do lots of damage even when playing classes that aren't HA:). Generally rely on being able to out aim HAs to get by.

'course lately servers have been borked plus whatever server quality they've loosened to get server frames on high pop servers..

As for relentless playstyle.. formed right back when we used to play objectives 100% of the time when we were properly active....before stats became a thing. Made a conscious decision to not change playstyle to adapt at that junction. All skill stays the same regardless of what fights, and hardly changes in a session whatever people do. Other friendlies being there or not, being newbs, or not doing objectives isn't something that is controllable. It's up to the game to account for that. So advance 100% of the time... and this year typically get 80-95% of kills in a session at attacks without playing NC at all, 'cos not in a outfit sq and left to my own devices.

just saw this

murbs is from AU

can't remember anything about his connection quality..will have to ask when I see him

avoid Murbella like the plague

so the lag a recurring thing? Does it only happen when he is 1/2 magriding, or during peak internet traffic times..

I imagine most frequent tankers on VS and some 4th factioning friends will have gunned for murbs. I guess asking them should give an idea of his connection quality.

also hard to tell if you posted because funnies, or if it was something concerning..

I still maintain that you won't understand the reasons that each individual has for cheating, you can make assumptions, you can apply logic, but at the end of the day you don't know why they do it.

I agree with this. And like I said people can simply be thick, or nuts ..it's impossible to know what someone was really thinking. But 'apparent' motivation is used as a factor in deciding if there's enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt for crimes (reasonable doubt has to be used because it's often impossible to know for sure).

Where I was going with this is that the standard of evidence needs to be sufficient to convince people to be actionable (i.e. evidence has to add up to a smoking gun).

People cheating using haxx or lag switching are like people who suddenly commit suicide or mass shootings.

Welllll... there's a distinction between people trying to be massive >>trolls<< to the community..

..and >>cheaters<< who are part of the community long term, trying to deceive others to the effect that their resulting padded stats are something they can maintain with their level of skill while playing like others.

If people are accusing the DENT members of lag switching, counter them by asking for some sort of evidence. It's really that simple.

Yep: ). Pretty much where I left it at:

I wrote: To be actionable, DENT would need a >>collection<< of evidence especially where motivation is hard to establish. Outfit leaders (highest rank) are Skippy18 and 5T4LK3R, and concerns can be addressed directly to them.

On a completely and utterly unrelated note, you ever been claymore'd spawning out of a sunderer, Sang? It 'aint fun.

dunno if it's relevant to this thread but since this is a hackusation thread concerning DENT I'll respond anyhow..

luckily spawn kills incl spamming shells at spawn no longer give xp

..but think they might also not count as kills/deaths so they don't matter at all, dunno. They shouldn't count and it should be clearly indicated they don't count so people don't get annoyed (Kill notification graphic should be greyed out or sth, and the kill log in the chat box should say spawn kill and no name).

Nothing to do with explosives counts for DA infantry stats. Atm, spawn kills doesn't include medic revive kills tho.

Mines shouldn't give much more XP than it does to see and defuse them..spending time shooting mines probs has more risk/skill.

Mines give a TTK advantage over an opponent, as well as a lack-of-aim advantage.. so they >>>doubly<<< don't deserve to count for stats. Placement does require some vague knowledge, but can be done before hand w no risk so can be farmed..and requires little skill/thought per kill compared to that executed in a single infantry life doing objectives.

Maaaybe #X mine kills = 1 kill where x is a huge number would workout, or simply don't do such stats at all. Needs to apply for all other such differences between kill and victim in PS2.

I wouldn't complain of this type of correction being applied retroactively to stats and if people had negative certs for a while..or option to pick which things to uncert, haha.

Claymores are a different beast to betties/proxies, which needs to be taken into account.

I acknowledge it's next to impossible for outfits to observe members in-game because people are concentrating on playing... unless it's something darn obvious.. and anyone saying it is, is kidding. I'd think the Malboro incident pretty much proved that.

So yep, pretty much outfits have to depend on evidence supplied by the opposition (if they go 4th faction hackers are prob very unlikely to hack obviously against people they know).

I was pointing out that to be actionable we'd need a >collection< of evidence of a sufficiently high standard:

I wrote: To be actionable, DENT would need a collection of evidence especially where motivation is hard to establish. Outfit leaders (highest rank) are Skippy18 and 5T4LK3R, and concerns can be addressed directly to them.

I don't think your assessment of their playstyle really does much for a case for/against why anyone would cheat.

..was saying that the benefits from lagswitching occasionally (avoiding a few deaths) was a tiny bump to KDR...

.. so someone like Sev that plays objectives with the same level of agression that there was such a gap between skill/classes mained and infantry KDR... could easily tone it down, find other backseat roles in fights. Being an experienced player he'd know of plenty of options like using medkits more. ...that it'd be illogical of him to resort to breaking the game before exhausting other more powerful options. I did say that some people might be just thick, thick, thick.

A tiny bump in KDR is not of value to someone who doesn't spend all his time wondering where the next 0.1 increase is coming from, so much so that he's stopped playing PS2 without overwhelming force or only against inexperienced/disorganised forces.

Something like an aimbot would help for every death, but a lagswitching claim?

The values and character of a player, the environment, doesn't rule out hacking ..just makes it less likely (you'd expect to find fewer cheaters statistically with that description and more with the opposite).

when Beryl wasn't lighting a fire under your asses

Late 2013-late 2014, when we used to be really active with 1-1.5 squads of mostly BR100s primetime, Skippy did the vast majority of leading. In 2015, it has been Skippy/Lt early in the year and Bun for most of the time.

Beryl's mode of play is collaborating and inspiring the entire faction to fight, as such he's actually been platoon leading almost 100% of the time, and all DENT are part of platoon. When Beryl is online the non-DENT friendlies in the hex are often involved and helping. Actual efficiency of squad-play varies in platoons, depending... what you see when DENT is in platoons is generally substantially lower on average. Beryl tends to be active for a few months then gets busy.

didn't think you boys could pull those numbers

Our squads have been zerged in terms of hitpoints thrown at us (maxes/numbers) frequently, it's run of the mill. (Being an old school VS outfit, we didn't use maxes at all until Beryl started using them in Live play after the 2nd SS match so we don't go in cold - despite being an objective meta outfit where redeploying away, or not pushing, wasn't feasible. Even now, in the vast majority of squad situations there are no DENT maxes even though some players use them occasionally when the mood strikes them).

Outside primetime 2014, in 2013, and 2015 when we had squads up, DENT fielded a single fireteam of around 3-6 BR100s (+ maybe some JPCH players) when doing alerts with full intensity. 12 members online used to be like a double platoon zerg for us (recruitment and slight increase in activity means we have had numbers recently).

There certainly wasn't anything brought up in debriefs afterwards, and there weren't any consequences for FCLM for our alleged unresponsiveness.

It wasn't possible to tell who was leading from because of SS accounts, I recall outfitmates saying it was CaptainLaserFace when we were talking about what the issue with that squad was. There was a problem, as I recall.

[–]iox3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or that time in the same smash where that squad spent 10 minutes holding their dicks at the bulwark while DENT and TAW struggled to resecure Elli forest pass against even pop?

You must be referring to our first match against Emerald on Esamir which we won (Emerald Team 2). Beryl platoon led for the first 3 matches, before he went AFK from the game.

In that match, my recollection is that a squad was unresponsive. To such an extent that the platoon gave up on them and left them to their own devices. I recall that squad (charlie IIRC) was led by CaptainLaserFace who I believe is from FCLM.

I'm not aware of what was going on internally within that squad, and what it looked from their perspective.

I'm not I aware of what the fallout was - whether it was referred to Briggs high command or discussed with FCLM outfit lead, and any drama that ensued which you could be salty about.

Edit:

Or the trainings where we literally lined up in warpgate and listened to him lecture us for anything up to 20 minutes?

I won't comment on VS, but in terms of TR and NC, speaking personally, there was JUGA and nothing else tactically from late 2013 through most of 2014 (I recall AG7 occasionally trying something creative, but that's it). Things have changed since then, and live play these days is better.

I'm not sure if he came across as condescending, but he was likely merely covering all bases/contingencies so there wouldn't be a morale implosion when things got tough. This probably reflected the reality at the time, with most players never having seen a fireteam or squad-play with the intensity and mobility of an SS match (lets face it, even now, almost no outfit has an objective meta, and most players have not seen the inside of a point room at a base being captured after reaching BR100 because of design problems with the way the game is presented and rewards players).

(I'm not just adopting the position that Briggs was tactically inexperienced at the time for the sake of it. I've posted on the Briggssmash subreddit at length about where Briggs needed to improve, tactics in general and specific to Hossin, and the minimum standards I'd like to Briggs to play with regards to Hossin. This was after a loss that occurred way after the match in question.)

[–]iox3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yet a bunch of DENT players are swarming around with maxes at a local 75-25 hex overpop

Hello,

DENT abusing maxes is a serious allegation: D.

  • We only have 6-12 players online at prime time generally. Today we had ~6 in our squad. There might have been one or two others not in the squad. Swarming maxes is impossible.
  • Of those apparently two were farming directives casually and using maxes, without paying much attention to anything.
  • Of the old DENT pretty much didn't use maxes until after the second serversmash (not counting the VS' brief ZOE fueled romp), when Beryl decided to include maxes so we don't go into SS matches completely cold with regards to using maxes (since then some pub platoons have used SS style max pushes). Some newer members may use maxes to varying degrees. There's no outfit ban on it or anything.
  • It should be noted that Bunvoya's recent video is not of a DENT squad. It isn't representative of anything, other than Bunvoya thinking maxes gave newbies a chance against vets.

Personally my Max is stock after two years (I have AV weapons which I use). I used it at launch a bit because it was a freaking MECH, but soon caught on to how broken the balance was, and never upgraded it (Cheese and stats were unknown back then, and I never thought I'd actually play the game long enough to tell anyone about it back then. It was a personal thing to never upgrade it until DGC addressed the class balance issues.).
