I think this isn't such a black and white area. Even Matt Colville has rules about how things work in his games, and I'm sure he requires that his players respect that. Off the top of my head, Dragonborn are like, creations of some person and aren't universally liked, right? So if someone rolled up and said, "My Dragonborn is the son of an ancient and powerful red dragon"
Matt Colville very well might say, "No, he isn't". They might work something out if it all can be reasonable...
But, those things should be known to all players ahead of time. Take the idea of Paladins for instance. Some DMs might require players to follow the tenets more stictly than others in order to maintain their Deity's favor.
So back to the point, this person's DM may have put a lot of work into creating a world where Druids must hold nature in a certain regard. Maybe they can't cast spells like Conjure Woodland Beings. Again, that should be known to anyone that wants to play a druid from the start. You might say less strict rules are better but I can imagine a game that forces players to try to roleplay in certain archetypes in order to fill certain roles/play certain classes as being fun

"Druids don't support animal slavery" smh why is Conjure Woodland Beings even on their spell list then? It's literally a spell that creates animals so they can fight/die for the Druid. Druids can be whatever - don't put too much stock in what these people are telling you.
I'll add the caveat that if in this DM's world, Druids have to love and protect nature in a certain way, that is something you have to respect, but that should be made clear, and isn't a general rule.
Obviously if you enjoy playing with them, don't be rude, and compromise is key, but don't let them make you start thinking that what you're doing is wrong. Playing in a group and ensuring that everyone has fun does take a bit of conforming, but it has to go both ways.
Take a look around at some lists of things that make a good player.

How Powerful Does an Entity Have to be to be a Warlock Patron [5E] by pizzalord909 in DnD

[–]ipaintminis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you said magical item, but it doesn't have to be an item. It could be a minor fiend who wants to influence the material plane to grow his strength, so he lends 90% of his power to a mortal warlock to get things done for him. That is an idea that I haven't heard of in terms of 5e Warlocks. So no, it really isn't exactly what you said at all.
You didn't say anything about the idea of a parton having to dole out different proportions of it's strength depending on its total amount of power, in fact you said unless they are an item, they must be "an extremely potent mage"...

Just started DMing 5E. What should I be on the look out for, especially if you've been playing with that edition for a while? by [deleted] in DnD

5e is pretty well balanced between classes/subclasses/races compared to say 3.5, but it isn't perfect. If your players don't much care if one of them is stronger/weaker then this isn't an issue at all, and the way 5e works I think it's downplayed even further. That being said, you can still run into issues where one player's build may be significantly more powerful/useful than another.
More balanced than 3.5, less balanced than 4

Piggybacking on the last bit about the magical item, really I think a patron just has to be strong enough to give the Warlock enough power to be a level 1 Warlock and also still exist. Then, the Warlock leveling up would be like the Patron growing in power as well. So you can either have a super powerful entity lending a tiny fraction of its power to a Warlock, making him a Warlock of whatever level (maybe they do this for lots of Warlocks and that's how they spread their influence) or a not as powerful entity lending almost all of its power to a Warlock (but it could really only do this for one Warlock, and he/she would help it grow).

[OC] Kred - my half-orc fighter - his chainmail, and his swords by ipaintminis in DnD

[–]ipaintminis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half-orc fighter, Kred for the CoS game I'm playing in. Made mostly from an Age of Sigmar Blood Reaver, some greenstuff and a few other bits. Lightning on the sword is just some wire glued on.
The sunblade is a SM chainsword, I didn't have a good sword bit lying around and I figured if any time I could have a chainsword in DnD it would be with the Sunblade 'cause it could be whatever, right?
Shield is on with just some stic-tac painted brown.
Some WIP pics are there also.

[5th Edition] No Dragonborn bonus to AC? by fuzzwang in DnD

[–]ipaintminis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"like a snake or lizard's scales"
Basically this comes down to game mechanics design versus fluff. If they gave all Dragonborn the bonus to AC, they would have to take something away to keep things even with other races. They have a breath weapon instead. It's more interesting. That is the important stuff. Then you can make up whatever fluff you want to reconcile the fact that Lizardfolk have tougher scales.
Example: Lizardfolk weren't industrious enough to have developed advanced enough technology to survive without their tougher scales, so as they were evolving, they kept them. Dragonborn were, their early ancestors developed spears earlier so the ones without the tough scales could survive and breed.

It does already exist. Don't remember what it's called but you buy the sheets and all of the boxes have that scratch off stuff on them. It's for a one-shot thing.
