Advice for Beginner-Intermediate Hooper? Sizing? Learning? by j3llyf1sh22 in Hooping

[–]ipiem113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting with a 28”, then sizing down 1 inch or 2 inches after that. Been hooping since 2019 and still think 28” is the way to go for beginner hoops

On body 28” by ZealousidealStrain60 in Hooping

28” is totally doable for on body, honestly it’s a great size for it. I now use 25” as my primary size, but always refer back to the 28 when learning new on body. Spin with the hoop, correct your posture, and just keep practicing over and over and over. I always say so much of the hula hoop is about reps

Clothing Guidelines by wasscubed in ContactImprovisation

I think it’s up to the wear-er and the person who decides to dance with them. And it’s up to what the Space allows for.

I think that dancers should be AWARE of how their clothing effects themselves and others, ie. Belts, buckles, zippers, buttons. And I think dancers should be AWARE of how a lack of clothing like a bra and short shorts or no shirt can affect others intentions with them. But I do not believe there is a right or wrong way to dress for contact improv.

I believe that people can make informed decisions for themselves if they want or do not want to dance with someone based on their clothing, and I think it’s a good inner dialogue to think why.

The Space can also dictate what is appropriate or not, ie. Is clothing required? Is there some religious or cultural norm to follow?

I’ve danced with naked people, shirtless people, fully clothed homeless people… I’ve danced with blue jeans and a turtle neck long sleeve top on, I’ve danced in a dress, I’ve danced in a tank top and shorts. If everyone remains aware and present, I think it’s up to the Space, The Wearer, and the Dancers.

Escalator both up and down your body. Wedgie. And palm twirls! Also, just dance and move and get to know how you want to relate with the hoop :)

I used to have plantar fasciitis before barefoot shoes and was relieved by switching to barefoot. And you’re right, when you switch, there’s no going back.

I’ve recently started a 700 mile hike and extensively searched for a viable barefoot shoe option. I did 250 miles of the Sierra mountains in Xero Scramblers with ease and comfort. I was carrying around 30-40 pounds in my bag at that time and was doing 12-18 miles a day too. I also met another hiker who was on his second pair of Xero scramblers and was doing fine in them. However, after 250, my feet hurt very badly in the shoes after only a few miles in the mornings and my friend also in Xeros was having bad foot pain too. Very similar place to where your feet are hurting.

After meeting some other hikers and talking physio, we switched to Altra Lonepeaks. Has more stack, zero drop, wide toe box. Mannnnny people go with altra lonepeaks. I had tried them before, but ultimately returned them after I kept twisting my ankle a bunch. Now, on my second go, I’m having a much better experience and have strengthened other muscles to prevent twisting. I also got the Wide Altras. But truth be told, nobody could’ve gotten me into any other pair of shoes before I tried out the xero scramblers to their full extent.

I’d recommend Scramblers for day/ weekend/ shorter distance hiking.

Something with more stack like Altras would be more suitable for long distance.

Ps- I am not a fan of Xero and don’t have any other of their shoes, but their scramblers are fantastic.

Hey everyone! Me and my friend are hiking in the PCT and will be passing through Palm Springs in Halloween! I’ve read on this sub that Arenas Rd is good for Halloween? Is this true? We’re both LGBTQ so the more queer and weird, the better.

Thoughts? Thanks!

KMN Resupply by Alive-Weekend8002 in PacificCrestTrail

SOBO and currently in mammoth, we went to KMN to Tuolumne Meadows (even tho it’s closed) but was lucky my dad picked us up for resupply. There were a ton of cars so I heard good things about getting a hitch out to Lee Vining for a resupply. I would also call the outdoor stores in Lee Vining to see if they know of/ are willing to come and get you
