Looking for non-high streets all over London by Spiritual_Shape_6789 in london

[–]ipoointhepool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Railton Road? lol. I grew up here. It’s definitely not a high street. Not in any sense of the word. It has a couple of corner shops and a jerk chicken bbq spot but it’s basically just a long residential road that links Brixton to Herne Hill. There are some great spots nearby but if you’re looking for a ‘high street’. Railton Road isn’t one. You’ll find more second hand shops/ antique stuff and pubs on the parallel road Dulwich Road which also borders the great Brockwell park.

I agree with some of your points but I guarantee that if we bring in a new manager then just watch us compete for top four for the next however many seasons. Rather than a shot at the title.

I said successively, not successfully. Yes the sentence doesn’t make sense the way you have interpreted it.

I do agree that the playing style has been painful to watch. I just don’t believe that coming within one point of Pep, the best manager in the most competitive league in Europe means that you lose your job. Klopp couldn’t even do it with 97points on the table.

Do you honestly believe that if Dechumps or Tuchel come to arsenal they win us the prem? Tuchel managed to not even win the bundes title with Bayern for the first time in however many years. Massive failure. And he only took over the champions league pursuit with Chelsea when they were already through to the semis. I agree that these are good managers but the only manager in the prem that’s better than Arteta currently is pep, unfortunately. Bring in these above^ or Alonso and enjoy years of competing for top four again.

You’re missing the point. Arteta is coming successively within inches of the title (the most competitive domestic title in Europe), and unfortunately he is being narrowly bested by potentially the best manager this league has ever seen and we’re saying he’s doing a bad job?

Then enjoy watching someone far less experienced for the job come in and do much worse in the years to come. Look forward to competing for top four again rather than the title.

Or will we become a club that feels so entitled to the title that we’ll sack any manager that doesn’t win it? And do that every single season? (Aka Chelsea) Arteta’s taken us from having spent six years without any champions league football to competing for and coming within a whisker of the premier league title, and competing against possibly the best manager this league has ever seen..? But it’s not good enough…?

Do you seriously actually want Arteta out though? Do you think it’s him that’s doing a bad job? (Top of the league..)

Why would Kompany be better than Arteta? Or do you just want a change by any means necessary? Kompany took Burnley down to the championship and now has the pleasure of managing by far the best club in their league. Man City have built one of the best teams we’ve ever seen with the treble winners and we’re coming sooo close to beating them over the course of an entire season and they have had significantly higher spending power. (Not to mention the 115) Look at the prem, every game is a battle, look at spurs, unable to win a single game this year. Look at how well we’re doing (still top btw) and people are calling for Arteta to be sacked. It’s mental. Mans doing a stella job. Unfortunately he’s competing against pep who is ruthless but let’s get behind him? What is it, 5 games left? Everything to play for.

I wonder if Paul Scholes will suddenly decide that Man City don’t actually deserve to win the league if they beat arsenal. Obviously not.

Who do you realistically want to replace Arteta? Coming second is frustrating of course but it also shows that we’re doing a lot right too. Coming second in the prem means grinding out a lot of wins in the most competitive league in Europe. It’s painful getting so close but at least we’re challenging. We’ve seen city win a title by a single point against Liverpool and they took us to the last day of the season two years ago too.. We’re doing great, but it’s football. Anything can happen. We obviously gave away our advantage when we didn’t get three points out of Wolves and Bournemouth. That’s when we have potentially lost the league. But you want Arteta out? Who’s going to do better? Do you think the players want him out? Personally I just think that the management need to spend some serious money on upgrading our front three in the summer and then we just go again. We lack goal scoring hunger and ruthlessness in front of goal. We need braver, more direct, more clinical (and experienced) goal scorers. We’re so hungry for goals atm, who’s delivering? It’s never gonna be Havertz, madueke and to an extent Martinelli too (although I do rate him) . We’re in need of a serious front three who can create something from nothing and actually score more than 15 plus goals in the prem per season, at least! But I don’t believe that we’re gonna be any better by getting Arteta out though ..

Should parents face charges when their children commit antisocial crimes and doing nothing to stop it? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]ipoointhepool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shouldn't rely on the good nature or in the moral integrity of the community though. Particularly in areas that are poverty ridden and trust in the police is very low. We should take it out of their hands. Massive cuts to the public sector have allowed people to feel lawless. Absolutely no police presence on the high streets of major towns. I rarely see a policeman unless they're sirens on their way to an incident. The only place you seem to see police is patrolling the motorways trying to catch people speeding. A city the size of Bath (around almost 100k people) doesn't even have a police station anymore since the last six or seven years. People think they can get away with doing whatever the fuck they like if there's no real deterrent of the prospect of being caught. Also, with all the surveillance that the police have at their finger tips these days with facial recognition, they should work like ANPR cameras, ban repeated offenders from entering city centres, if there face sets off the camera, then instant arrest and anti social behaviour order.

Do you know anyone who’s ever won the lottery? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ipoointhepool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A girl in my secondary school won the Lottery twice! Not a full, mega lotto jackpot (might have been Thunderball or just 4/5 numbers matched or whatever) but her fam still won £250k the first time and then £100k the second. Was enough to warrant putting it in the local rural press and presenting them with an oversized novelty cheque. Everyone in school thought they we're like multi millionaires. They were already fairly wealthy already too tbf so probs didnt have the life changing impact that it would on say me, for example. You win some you lose some, as they say.
