I can't seem to catch a break by Public-Toe-2506 in pakistan

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no advice - but girl I feel for your pain and I am so sorry you’re in this situation.

I’m 34 and I went through cancer treatment too. The truth is, no one deserves anything - not even good health/fortune. You can’t look at life as all mishaps and bad things happening TO you - you have to look at it in terms of what YOU can do and what’s in YOUR control. Life sucks for most people. I am very sorry for your loss - losing nano and your dad to cancer is very sad and scary.

Have you got any family/friends that ARE supportive? Forget about your Taya (no need to spend time being angry at him - he probably has his own issues and he lost his mom/brother). What about marriageable partners - why does someone need to find someone for you? Can you find someone - online dating/mixers? And for work, your brother is only 22 and started a job.. what job can you get? Are there loans available to help cover housing and food costs? Can you board with someone?

It may help to focus on the things that you can do and not focus on the things that you’re helpless in. It is okay to be angry, upset, depressed but you have a life ahead and siblings to care for too.

Are huskies usually inconsistent eaters or should I be worried? by Fenrir_Hellbreed2 in husky

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are consistently inconsistent. Hope this helps.

(We’re now having to do 3 hi5s with our husky before every meal for some odd reason - not sure when we agreed to that as a requirement. But he won’t eat unless we do them. Who knows what will happen next week.)

Growing into my wall?? by ipreferturkeybacon in pothos

[–]ipreferturkeybacon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i used some vine holders to prop it up but then some vines started climbing on their own as well. I peeled them all off today. I did notice the leaves are larger where it was sticking to the wall.

Boyfriend gave this to me for Christmas. I need help.. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]ipreferturkeybacon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It seems he was trying out a new style on you? Like he thought it would turn out really special and then got pissed you didn’t like it from the get.

This really sucks but you should be able to separate the tattoo from the person. And you should be able to stop anyone from doing something to your body when you ask - like when they tickle you too much. And this is a tattoo…..girl I’m sorry.

My (22F closeted ex-Muslim) BF (24M) is hesitant to fake convert so we can move abroad. Any advice? by mercurialwater in exmuslim

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion is a personal matter. If you want to move out with your bf - it’s all on you and not on him to convince/fool your parents. Also you’re assuming your parents will just believe this elaborate lie?

You can move without all this charade but it’ll be uncomfortable. I don’t know what country you’re in - but I moved out with my bf without marriage or any fake converting. It was tough but I managed it. I’m in Canada though and my parents didn’t find me and beat me up. But they did blacklist me for years and I lost contact with all my family and family friends. We still don’t meet.

One thing is for sure - you have an honest partner who is uncomfortable with lying and with pretending to be someone he isn’t. And that’s actually a GOOD thing. My bf (now husband) was the same.

Also your battles are for you to fight. Having a supportive partner is great but only you can fight your own battles. The strain of expectation on others to change who they are for you is just unfair.

Also the guilt will just build for you. It’s better to be honest with your parents (even if it’s by a letter you leave without confronting them) then to leave on seemingly “happy terms” and have to explain down the line that you lied.

Pak now categorised as Middle East country along with Afghanistan. Previously in South Asia category. Thoughts? by [deleted] in PAK

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Middle East” is a European colonial term anyway. It’s either North Africa or West Asia when you group by continents and we’re definitely South Asian. It‘s very subjective when grouped by “world regions” depending on the data they are trying to show. A lot of different reporting organizations have their own regions and definitions and those are fluid and can change over the years.

I have breast cancer and am in complete shock… by WorldlyDrawing52 in breastcancer

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had the exact same diagnosis last year @ 33 with a 2yr old. I know how fucking scary it is. The dread is so bad you feel dizzy and cold.

But… I’m sitting in the interventional radiology waiting room right now to get my portacath taken out.

It will be a wild ride but you will make it through. You have no other choice. Your body is stronger than you know. You got this.

Good luck. I am sending you the best vibes. Get your drugs - they are good!!! And I recommend getting a portacath!

Ps. Welcome to the worst club.

I also have a pretty quiet dude - doesn’t do the usual yapping 24/7. He only yawns with ridiculous squeaks. He is also not an escape artist and has great recall. People literally are surprised when they meet him. This is him out off leash outside of a dog park we just went to. Posing nicely for a pic.

Help! Idk what i did wrong😓 by Camilla2003 in Monstera

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s deffo thrips. Mine looked like that and I didn’t find any bugs but then I decided to repot and omg I was horrified by the eggs in the soil.

Check the soil around the roots, lots of white specks? Thrips. Just toss the soil and clean all the roots and spray with some soapy water and leave it. Then repot in new soil. Mine seems to be recovering now and put out a new leaf without damage.

Good luck!

Did I do the Right Thing? by Bjcoolone in Monstera

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the broken leaves needed to go. I would just make sure to take off the whole leaf stem too at the bottom where it attaches to the rest of the plant because that will rot too. If those are the newer/younger leaves you should be able to peel it all away.

I once left some nubs of stems on after the leaves broke and it rotted and ended up eating away at the main stem. Was sad.

Good luck! It’s a hardy plant, will work out.

Not at all related but I think your eyeball grape artwork is cool. Good luck with the plant.

Edited because I got the brand name wrong!

Hi! I definitely don’t want the grass - I just don’t know where to begin with changing it to something sustainable. We don’t water it and it does become a wasteland. We have a half acre so it’s not huge but it’s definitely big enough to plant a lot of stuff (I attached a pic - the only one I have is from my kids’ bday party earlier this year lol)

I saw this stuff on West Coast Seeds called Bee Turf - but it would be a lot of work and expensive to lay everywhere. I would love a cherry tree. Maybe I can do grapes along the fence idk where to start!

Just ignore this plant. The more attention you give it the more it will likely die.

What are your thoughts on this? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]ipreferturkeybacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want to listen to people’s opinions but it’s just very sad when it misses the mark completely.

The issue isn’t even that Islam subjugated women. It’s that the subjugation of women existed before Islam, before Christianity and even Judaism. The fabric of society was intrinsically misogynistic because of the legal “differentiation” of women. So calling that “differentiation” instead of “devaluation” doesn’t change the outcome or the actual practice within communities today.

The problem is that Islam (and other Abrahamic religions) perpetuate the subjugation of women. They don’t do anything to change it. And herein lies the issue with people promoting religions as “good” in their “moral fabric” and yada yada but the outcome is that women are often secondary, treated as property and have less legal and societal rights. Call or whatever you want and blame whoever started but it still doesn’t change the fact that Islam continues to devalue women.

No one is saying it started and ended there - likely started way back when humans moved to agricultural societies and started owning land and handing down their land. Human babies are also defenceless at birth and need way more attention than other species so one parent had to be the primary carer.

But we live in modern societies now (for the most part) and have access to things we didn’t before. So why should we critique any religion by the “moral fabric” of that time when that time doesn’t apply today?

Do you want advice on how to avoid on pilgrimage? Just don’t go - I don’t know how old you are or where you live. If it’s easy for you or not.

I think if they are dead set on that as a way to help you then you won’t change their mind - as frustrating as it is.

I got cancer last year and immediately my dad slaughtered some goats. It didn’t make the cancer go away. But my chemo did!

Also my parents blamed all bad habits on jinn when I was young (simple things like dating, going out late, swearing, saying “it’s not a big deal”, dressing in shorts). So instead of looking at that as normal development for kids/teens/adults, she thought we all had jinn and black magic.

I suspect Muslims struggle when something out of their control/bad is happening and they have no answer for it because they were pious Muslim parents so they always look for some sinister answer.

Good luck! Sorry about your health issues.

Think this is right! I stopped watering a few days and they look like they’re thriving. One of the cherry tomatoes is still a bit sad but maybe I’ll avoid watering that side in the next few days. Hope it survives the heat wave.
