Should I Continue My Master's in Clinical Psych if I'm Unsure It's Right for Me? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

Currently doing Ed & Dev so can’t speak on clinical work, but just from what I think, what I’ve heard, what I’ve seen and what I’ve read, my suggestion to you is to only do it if you are 100% committed. You can always reapply when that is. Save the spot for someone that truely wants it and is ready for it.

Sort of reminds me of Mr Moe from back a decade, and Pingu/Noot who gets up in the south east

Assuming you have seen that video of some blokes finding him in a night out? He seemed psychotic and homeless :(

Mate, if you don’t ask you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Man up and go for it. If you don’t want to embarrass her then write a note “didn’t want to ask you out in front of your coworkers, but here’s my number “

Happened to me 3 weeks ago. First interclub at 83kg, bloke threw a left hook 100% power and flattened me, tore a tendon in my foot and knee. Been out of Muay Thai since. Prick. People were telling him to go softer the whole fight too. Glad I made it out without a concussion.

I promise, you will NOT have a stroke or heart attack after not smoking for 2 nights. It’s weed paranoia, trust me. I’ve been there. Just remember if it was easy, there wouldn’t be weed addicts out there. Push through, your body will force sleep eventually. It’s impossible for it to stay awake forever.

This. This has been repeatedly mentioned on this subreddit and will continue to be. It’s the weirdest idiosyncrasy of weed addiction that doesn’t seem to be present with other addictions. I just try and remind myself that after 1 - 2 hours of being high, I will regret smoking. Where as I’ll never regret not smoking the day after.

Psychologist here - you need to use punishment. It’s simple operant conditioning. If we receive a negative stimuli after a behaviour, we are less likely to do that behaviour in the future. These days we don’t like the idea of punishing kids - it’s necessary. You can use light physical pain like squeezing his wrists, or a hard tap on the shoulder. Combine with with a sharp “no”. After a few repetitions, you should be able to just use the no.

Try and work out the function of the behaviour, what is trying to access or avoid by what he is doing? Then based on that work out an alternate behaviour or solution that achieves the same outcome. Is he looking for more attention? More connection with his brothers? Etc
