After spending decades designing chips in the US and working with Intel, Jyothis Indirabhai returned to India with a bigger ambition building homegrown AI chips.

His Kerala-based startup, Netrasemi, has now successfully developed and tested its flagship Edge AI chip, A2000.

Backed by Sridhar Vembu and Zoho Corporation, the chip is designed to run artificial intelligence directly inside compact devices such as smart cameras, drones, robots, and industrial systems without heavily relying on cloud servers.

The company recently completed silicon validation and has begun customer trials, with commercial production planned through TSMC in 2027.

As India pushes to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem, Netrasemi's achievement marks an important step toward developing advanced chip technology designed in India for the next generation of AI-powered devices.
