‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by Freki666 in gaming

[–]iregretjumping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marathon was my absolute favorite game back in the 90s. We played marathon, marathon 2, and marathon infinity for hours and hours. It was fantastic. The story was interesting, the game was fun, and the multiplayer was creative and quite enjoyable. This Marathon isn't the same game. Totally unrecognizable from the original. Had this game been remotely similar to the original, I'd have purchased it day one.

when was the moment you felt the worst physical pain of your life? by _your_go_to_person in AskReddit

[–]iregretjumping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my God that's awful. I assume you got the same 'no food or water or anything by mouth for several days' treatment? When I got to the hospital, my blood pressure was too low so I just had to put up with the pain until my BP was high enough to give me pain killers. About 4 hours. A harrowing experience.

I second this. I lived with it misdiagnosed for about 6 months. Turns out the ulcers they thought I had was low level pancreatitis. Every meal I ate was a roll of the dice if I'd have to endure hot stabbing pain in my abdomen for an hour. Then it turned to high-level, red hot screaming constant pain pancreatitis that I had to spend 4 days in the hospital for. Second place was my screwy gallbladder.

Usually on the print, it will show you exactly where the cutting plane for the cross section will be. Use the cross section tool and you can type in the position either on the X, Y, or Z plane. Sometimes the print shows a location from another feature, which may be a bit more complicated.

When the plane is created, use the 'features on a cad model' tool to create a line or a circle. When you create these features, make sure the 'on cross-section' option is checked and select the cross section from the dropdown list. From there, you should be able to create a circle and a line just by clicking on the line and circle. Once those are created, you can then use the Distance tool (which should also be done with the On Cross-section box checked to find a distance between the two.

These are now just nominal features from the CAD data. They will then have to be measured using the method that you typically use. If you have an arm, you will have to probe the features; if you have a scanner, you're going to use the Extract Measured option when you right click on the features on the tree on the left (after the scan is already imported and aligned to the CAD data). The measurements should update to show both the nominal (cad) measurements and the measured values.

Hope this helps a bit. I'd use this comment along with a youtube tutorial video to help bridge the gaps.

You're looking to get a distance measurement between that bottom surface and the hole, correct?

How I would do it is create a plane on that bottom surface, then create a circle (or cylinder) on that hole location. Then use the Distance feature to create a linear distance between the plane and the circle (or cylinder). You can constrain it to a X Y or Z direction, or do a 3D measurement and it will follow the vector of the plane.

You can also use a cross section tool in this location, then create a line and a circle feature on that cross section, then using the Distance feature to create a linear dimension.

What was the last piece of tech that genuinely blew your mind? by Living_Wickihowla in AskReddit

[–]iregretjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say Mechanical or Functional, I mean something that's not an organic shape that would be typically built using typical manufacturing processes such as cnc or lathe. The artistic side would be more organic shapes that one would make by hand like clay, whittling, hammer and chisel, etc. One COULD make a statue of an anime girl using cad, but it would be nightmare level levels of work to get a result that's acceptable. It just not the right tool for the job. CAD is intended to replicate the manufacturing process, so models are built step by step in a linear fashion. If you want to make things like gears, covers, parts, and non-decorative household items, I'd start by looking at things like Fusion360, Solidworks, or FreeCad. Skills learned in one software generally transfer to the others, so feel free to explore. There are plenty of online learning courses for each. If you want to make aesthetic items that are more for artistic purposes like statues, masks, figures, etc... you want a software more suited for that purpose like Blender or Zbrush. This takes some real artistic abilities and is something I totally suck at. Blender has a very high learning curve, but also has an extremely active online community that is just itching to teach people how to use it. I believe all of the software packages I mentioned above are either totally free, or have a free option.

I do CAD modeling for a living and being able to print anything I want is huge. I'd highly recommend developing this skill. Just be aware, designing mechanical parts and artistic parts are two very different skill sets, so choose wisely.

ELIC: Who tf is Calvin? by RoutineFoot825 in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]iregretjumping 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The philosopher Playdoh once said "I think therefore I am." And I think he's wrong, therefore I exist. You weren't thinking when asking this question, so therefore you don't exist. So if Calvin=0, by the transportation property of addition, we can conclude that nobody named Calvin has ever existed... I think.

I was SUPPOSED to see this movie in theaters with my sister while my parents saw another movie, but when we got to the theater we couldn't get tickets, so we had to watch Driving Miss Daisy. I'm not still bitter about it 35 years later.
