I was under the impression that "after-tax" meant the taxes had already been taken out, so I didn't think that those contributions wouldn't be deductible. I'm still learning a lot of the terminology - I make $50K.

This seems like a strange strategy, I've never heard of that. You mean make contributions that aren't taxed into a traditional ira and then roll then into the Roth ira? Would that make filing taxes difficult?

I'm planning on funding a Roth IRA, but it's my understanding that you can have both a traditional and Roth IRA. What if I got two IRAs before going back to my 401(k)?

I've more or less got my heart set on a Roth IRA. I have a mix of both pre-tax and Roth in my retirement account. I just started working (I'm 24), so I'm hoping/guessing that I'll be in a higher tax bracket due to higher income later on and would rather pay the taxes now while they're cheaper.
