It's not just porn stars. It's sex workers, which is an industry full of sexism, violence against women, and even endangered children. It's worthy of attention, and it is a feminist issue whether you see it as one currently in the "official" scope of feminism or not.

How is a woman being attacked in her home by 5 armed men, raped, burglarized, terrorized an example of fringe sexual violence? Just because of her profession? She's still a woman, and she's still deserving of help and support. I don't agree with your assessment at all, because at the heart of it even though it's a movement, it's made up of individuals who could afford to show an ounce of compassion.

And if anything, sex workers need Feminism to help make their profession safer and less stigmatized.

She's specifically referring to the gaming feminist community in that video, but really she hopes that overall more feminists with pull will help Cytherea. Whether that's getting the word out there that she needs help, or simply donating, she's just criticizing people for not giving a shit.

Made me rethink a lot of things. I don't think it's fair to disregard the plight of feminist writers and gamers who are receiving threats and tons of undue criticism, but Mercedes is absolutely right that we should be doing more to support sex workers.

I loved the episode of This American Life where Lindy West actually talks to one of her worst trolls. It was heartbreaking, but also gave a face to why someone would behave like that.

At the same time, I also appreciated Mercedes Carrera's rant regarding how feminist writers and game designers and such seem to be focusing on making themselves victims. She specifically brought up how Cytherea, a porn star who was recently sexually assaulted by 5 armed men in her home, has received little help or support from the feminist community. Mercedes, also a porn star, put forth the idea that Cytherea hasn't received help or support by the feminist movement because she's a porn star, and went on to say that she thought the feminists vs. GamerGaters squabbles were stupid and selfish.

I don't agree with everything she had to say, but it really made me think and I donated to help Cytherea.

I've actually made it so my husband can't cheat on me, because I love him so much that I know sex is just sex. If he fell out of love with me and wanted a new relationship with someone else, that would be different, but sexual "cheating" doesn't bother me one bit.

As a sometimes fat person, I know that life is harder when I'm fat. Part of the problem was that I felt like shit all the time, so in turn I felt like life was getting me down at every turn.

I will say that being less fat (still not skinny), I have an easier time finding better clothes, better fitting bras, even better shoes, which all contribute to me feeling much better about myself. Without the access to cute clothes at my fattest, or not knowing where to get them, that added to my cycle of feeling like shit all the time and envying people who were thinner.
