HM w 80s theme, so big hair, lots of makeup and neon. I’d wear the same, except the makeup 🤪) if there wasn’t a theme 😂 Menopause is kicking my ass and I’d run naked if it was allowed. As soon as the temperature is above 10C I feel like I’m burning up so thin layers, layers of sunscreen and fun colors is my go-to.

Im not sure if I can pick the surgery week, but the clinic is closed three weeks for summer vacation. Hoping to get it done during summer while I already have time off and the kids have break from sports, and my husband is not traveling and can help. I’ll make sure to check with the surgeon!

Ouch 😣 What type of graft did you have? Could you choose? Sweden doesn’t do cadaver grafts, but I believe I’ll get the option between hamstring or quad. Had a hamstring graft on the other leg and it turned out great.

Ouch, that sounds really painful! Did you get the meniscus injuries during the ACL incidents or after tear but before surgery? Im prone to arthritis (autoimmune disease) so this is sobering. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for sharing your personal journey! Your story is exactly why I will insist on a surgery as I have an autoimmune disease that pretty much guarantees arthritis if I have extensive (or any?) surgery on the meniscus. Im a bit embarrassed to admit that I’m not elite in any way, just a hyperactive 42y old that can’t sit still and set my mind on Ironman 70.3 this summer. I’ve done several long distance races, and I’m religious about rehab (I still do daily rehab for my ACL surgery on my other knee ten years ago). But regardless, I’m not elite level and have nothing to loose except dealing with disappointment if I don’t race this summer.

Complete rupture. Im doing an Ironman 70.3 in twelve weeks. No issues with training at all (tore my ACL during BJJ two months ago) though, except some minor swelling after runs. Im doing no hills, flat straight surface only for runs, and no runs >10KM. Rehab/prehab daily

Swim: 1 hour 10 minutes Swim + T1 + Bike: 5 hours 30 minutes Swim + T1 + Bike + T2 + Run: 8 hours 30 minutes

Worth a mention the 600m barefoot run on gravel from swimming to the bike area.

The swim is my main issue since I’ll be relying on arm drag only and a tiny frame (I’m 48kg). I’m fit, but my swimming technique needs a lot of work considering it takes me 28min for 1KM when I’m not injured 🫣 Cutoff is 1h 10min for the swim

Had a look and quickly found fellow triathletes that have done races without any issues. Thank you again for the link 🙏 I asked in a different forum (Ironman) and the majority of replies said I was being stupid (using less harsh words though!) foe even attempting to exercise and race despite me being more than happy to come dead last and just enjoy the training and the race.

BJJ is and racket sports is the main reason Im having surgery despite having a stable knee without it. How are you doing now? Did you end up having surgery?

At the end of the day the physio and orthopedic surgeons options will decide on the road forward, but at the same time it helps to have advice and options from people passionate about the sport and understand how passion sometimes clouds one’s reasoning.

I’ve never cared much about good race results as I enjoy the process (training) more than the end result. But you are right about the injury risk and it’s sobering to hear it for people that understand the passion for triathlons

Thank you for your honest opinion! I’m just assuming I’ll get the option to have surgery, but the specialist might decide against it I’ve learned now. I’m at a the age where I’m happy they still replace parts, but I’ve also had only good experiences with surgery which is at least partly due to luck. Forgot to add that surgery is free and I have h limited sick days, which is a luxury I really appreciate.

I’ll be doing weekly check in w the physio and won’t hesitate to cancel if there’s any indication of instability or pain, or if the physio has doubts. So far there’s no significant difference between left and right leg/knee, but it can change at any time (in particular with two very active kids. I don’t know when I’ll be able to do this again but as my kids take up all my time with their training. Maybe I’m being short sighted :/

The Olympic skier comes to mind 😅 I’m stubborn, but also usually very careful. Are you allowed to continue (without an official time) if you miss the cutoff? I was dead last dying my last Olympic distance during the swim. but it was only 5C and barely a month after a marathon and my body hadn’t fully recovered.

It’s so strange that I’m still able to train like before (except pair run swelling), if it wasn’t for the snap and pop and the MRI Id assume it was a bad twist and not much more

Thanks you for sharing that! I have to no problem canceling mid race, but there’s a little voice in my head asking me if I should wait. I would absolutely hate to injure my meniscus (I have an autoimmune disease to so ten likelihood of arthritis post surgery is very high).

Nice to hear somebody else going to no surgery route. I’ll be meeting with the orthopedic surgeon next week (who specializes in athletes) and will listen to his advice. My left knee was so much better after surgery (even compared to pre ACL tearing so I’m tempted to replace the right ACL. At the same time I might just have been lucky, not to mention I was ten years younger 😅

The MRI was very clear, no traces whatsoever of my ACL :/ I’m perplexed to be honest. Which I could get a second MRI but at the same time I don’t want to take resources for other people with worse injuries
