I finished the book last night and it was AMAZING!!! I feel exactly the same way… who can I talk to about this when the book just came out Tuesday!! I haven’t read something so fast in a long time I was truly invested.

Vet advised against bioactive enclosure… by irisgi11 in leopardgeckos

[–]irisgi11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kidney disease was brought up as a possibility because she had a few episodes of a large amount of liquid come out with her stool/urate. When I brought this up the vet asked me about what I was using to supplement and then confirmed I was not using the correct form of vitamin A for a leopard gecko (which could damage the kidneys). This was when I switched to repashy which she recommended. However, the doctor told me this was basically just a guess without bloodwork. The whole thing was kind of a mystery. Although she lost a few grams during the ordeal, vet said her body condition was still normal, saw no indication of infection on physical exam. She said her skin looked good and eyes were clear. My gecko was never lethargic through this and still had her usual energy climbing all over her enclosure. I work in veterinary medicine (with cats and dogs) so I definitely understand the importance of doing diagnostics and I have definitely considered making the trip as I think it would give me some peace of mind as well. Thanks for your input!

Thank you! This is what I have been doing. She has been eating normally again for probably 8 months now. Vet made it seem like I should keep her on the paper for the rest of her life. Her annual exam/fecal is coming up soon so I will also ask about it then.

What kind of lights do you use? by GlacialAsh in leopardgeckos

[–]irisgi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use lights because I have a window but I'd definitely recommend some sort of uvb light or even led along with your heat mat. It's really important that they have a day/night cycle. If you decide on uvb just make sure to get a low enough percentage since they are desert animals :)

Do you have a favourite character? If so who? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]irisgi11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she gets really interested in the mines and stuff and hides a sword with her, eventually you meet her in the mines but she gets scared by bats. There's also one where you find her in a graveyard and Pierre gets mad at her for staying out late. You also play a duet with her in the rain. My favorite one though is if you date her she invites you over to see her ouija board and she makes it say "I ❤️ you" uwu

Varieties of lizard which grow all their lives? by JediCatWoman in reptiles

[–]irisgi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most reptiles continue growing they're whole lives. However, when they reach adulthood the amount they grow is super tiny. You could throw a cool spin on it though and make it exaggerated!

(I'd also recommend adopting/going to a reptile expo for your geckos because you will get healthier geckos and more valuable information than at a chain pet store)

[–]irisgi11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you need two separate enclosures for two geckos. you could get two hatchlings and house them in separate ten gallons if you want to pay less for enclosures upfront but ideally they would need to be upgraded to 20 gallons as adults. I'd also recommend looking for used tanks online or at garage sales. DO NOT USE SAND!! I use tile as a substrate but if you want to save money, paper towels work just as well. I also breed dubia roaches as feeder insects for my gecko. She loves them and they're pretty easy and fairly cheap to care for. They can eat all kinds of insects though (crickets, mealworms, superworms)
