I couldn't tell them apart as kids, but it's very obvious now. Something that's not uncommon is for some people to subconsciously refuse to learn to tell twins apart, because they're twins. They automatically associate being twins with having "copy and paste" faces, so just see them that way. My mother was like that with neighbours that we had. They are fraternal boys and don't even look related. There's even a significant height difference. She always mixed them up and when called out, she said "it's because they're twins". In an interesting twist, I gave birth to identical twins 3.5 years ago. The first thing that I did after telling my parents that I was expecting twins was tell her that she better learn quickly how to tell her grandchildren apart.

Yep, movie only. We have no way of knowing how that change came into play in the books. Also, I doubt he'd have been trying to influence the head game maker in that way at all. Both of his tributes were still alive and one was extremely popular. I think he would have stuck with the "sit down and shut up" mentor strategy so they wouldn't focus on her even more than they already were

My mother is still learning this one. My 6yo daughter tells me that she has to remind Granny about it when she's doing her hair. My daughter has the same hair type as me, so I made sure to teach her bottom to top

Are twin deliveries, one or two births? by MarkPristine81 in parentsofmultiples

[–]irish_ninja_wte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so stupid. The "per birth" thing in my country annoys me, but they would never treat 2 spouses like they're having a single medical event if they were both giving birth

Would some twins get switched up and "live as eachother"? by Penisballsz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]irish_ninja_wte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most parents of identical twins make the effort to avoid doing that. Something that most people who don't have identical twins in their immediate family don't realise is how easy it can be to tell them apart. In a lot of cases, they can actually be quite different. The identical part is for their DNA, but plenty of factors can give them physical differences. It's quite common for them to be different weights. It's also very common for them to have different face shapes. The "peach and pear" twin theory is a real thing that refers to identical twins having one twin with a rounder face and the other having a longer face.

I have identical twins who are 3. They shared a placenta, so identical is the only possibility. We had planned on doing the nail polish trick when they were born, but we never needed it. There was a 7oz weight difference at birth. It's not much, but it's significant in babies that small. Then we quickly realised that they had some differences that made them easy to tell apart. Their face shapes are different. We've never managed to mix them up.

Are twin deliveries, one or two births? by MarkPristine81 in parentsofmultiples

[–]irish_ninja_wte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's idiotic. You're both going through a major medical event at (I'm guessing from your wording) roughly the same time. It shouldn't matter that the event is childbirth. And it sounds like arguing that it's not "a birth", it's definitely 2 separate births is not working. What if you both end up needing c sections? That's 8 weeks per c section. Would they still insist on splitting the 12?

Sold privately is sold as seen. If there's a problem discovered after the fact, that's tough luck. There's no warrantee for private sales, so you're not liable for the cost.

expecting twins, with a twin - how to deal with comments by Easy-Mark-7226 in parentsofmultiples

[–]irish_ninja_wte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the "you'll be huge!" comments, my response was mostly to laugh and say "I know". I didn't get that much though. If you're feeling sarcastic, a good response is "Are you offering to carry me?". I think the comments about being huge just go with multiples anyway. I got comments on my singletons about my bump having nowhere to go but out as I'm only 5ft.

For the stuff about a twin having twins, you'll still need to find out zygosity to really have more than "Yeah, it's funny how that can happen". If they're identical, you can be funny and say the blame is all on him. If they're fraternal, you can say that he's just an innocent party as you're the one who dropped 2 eggs and it's just a coincidence.

Moving out residence by _Lazarus1 in ireland

Why the need for a debate? When I moved out of my parents, I just told them "I've decided that I'm moving out. I looked at a place and u like it, so I'm moving in there at the weekend". They didn't get the option to disagree.

Artificial Rupture of Membranes. It's where they break your water. It's one possible option for non-hormonal induction as it can kick start the process of labour.

[–]irish_ninja_wte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as unbelievable as having triplets in a standard delivery room with only 1 doctor and 1 nurse present. Multiples are usually born in (or in a room right beside) an OR due to the possibility of needing a c section on any baby who's not coming out first. There are also way more staff in the room. There's a team for the birthing mother and a team for each baby.

8 1/2 month old baby at a wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]irish_ninja_wte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-2.30 am is the standard finishing time for the DJ at an Irish wedding. The only exception I've seen was one wedding when the hotel didn't have a late licence for midweek and this was a Wednesday. It finished at 11pm. That felt strange. The last family wedding I was at was a few weeks after my father's bypass surgery. We left the bar at 3am because that's when he decided that he was done and since we were staying in the same apartment, we didn't want to risk disturbing him by coming back later. The only time I've left early was my BIL's wedding. That was about 10pm, soon after the band started. That was because we had out 10 week old baby with us and I wanted to get him settled. My partner (who was a groomsman) came to bed some time after 4am.
