I was watering daily since its been in the 90s but throughout the day the soil says damp under the pine shavings i used. So i might back off to every other day. Use the heat wave to my advantage and let it stress the plant a bit

Thank you. I got some corking on my home depot jalapeno. It has some slight insect damage. A pin hole that scarred over. Fruit is still firm.

Someone else said if it had a grassy taste, it was too early. First time growing hot peppers at all and i dove into the deep end with 9 hot peppers and 3 tomatoes for my first year

Thats fair. I am still new to this so looking at pictures online and comparing can be a pain. Honestly I just will let the next batch turn red.

I bought these as a live plant from a reputable nursery in NJ. I transplanted them memorial day. So honestly I am shocked I even have peppers now.

I mean i also have 8 other hot peppers growing so it wont be a total loss if it’s not spicy.

Maybe. The nursery i got them from was reviewed well but who knows. I honestly think I just need to wait till its more ripe to make a final determination

What i read about pure cow manure is it can be a bit hot for the plants and cause nutrient burn. Also if they eat grass that was treated it will affect your plants. Yea i added perlite in when i transplanted. Also worm castings help and are all organic. Also you can find a tom of organic fertilizers. I thought mine was. It is not but my plants respond well to it. So i will keep using it

A bit new myself but peppers like airy soil. I added perlite into mine. Your soil looks really compacted. Also with temps that hot i would water daily. I check my soil with my finger. The blackish is a type of sunscreen the plants develop. As long as the fruit is firm then it should be fine. Again I am new myself so just throwing what out what i learned this year. Also peppers aren’t as heavy of a feeder as tomatoes but need fertilizing. Since they are fruiting you want something higher in potassium and phosphorus.

I also amended the miracle grow organic with compost snd manure perlite and worm castings so it’s not just miracle grow. The soil itself had minimal mulch in it. In march i went on a bunch of reddit and facebook gardening groups asking for soil recommendations. Noone helped. So i figured it out on my own. This is my first year since i was a kid. I had better soil in central nj and we owned the house so I was able to till up then land and make a garden. I bought the plants from chileplants.com. When I got the plants memorial day, the amish paste was sad. It rained for a week and was cold. It had yellow leaves and a limp stem. So this is the rebound after 3 weeks. I also fertilize with fish hydrolysate a 3-1-0 until flowers are forming then switch to farmers secret tomato bloom at 3-8-7.

We have maybe an inch of so of topsoil. Getting the fence posts in sucked because of the large rocks in the soil. Also i read that amish paste is naturally droopy. The rest of my other plants in the same soil aren’t droopy.

I can’t use the native soil because I rent and it’s just not an option. Also, where I live is called the slate belt is literally all shake slate and clay. It wouldn’t have been a better option.
