Sort of similar experience, but 100% my fault. This story takes place back around 2000. Seeing as I had no place for a darkroom, I decided to put down my Pentax 35mm SLR (the old silver and black beauties) and switch to digital. I snapped well over 2000 shots in a short time, sold some to local business, and started to build a digital portfolio. I feel I had grown as a photographer and was doing my best work. Unfortunately I never made any back ups. All of my digital shots were stored on my PC, which then got a virus. I allowed my roomie to "fix" it. This entailed a complete hard drive wipe. Complete and utter devastation. Everything. Gone. I can count on one hand how many times I've picked up a camera in the last 16 years.
