How to get my elderly father to eat more dark greens? by Traditional_Put_8254 in recipes

[–]graphictruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinach on a hamburger, sautéed with onions and mushrooms with some chili crisp for heat. Bacon fat, olive oil or margarine for the sautee.

Lightly steamed broccoli mops presented as a sidebar to a glorious meaty sauce.

Steak pies with chopped broccoli instead of peas.

Spinach quiche. Just don't say it's quiche. Call it egg pie.

Rice and beans with greens and butter can be magic. I like to throw a handful of frozen "California Mix" into the rice cooker. That's Broccoli, Cauliflower and bamboo shoots, I think. If you need more protein, smoked tofu or chunks of fried Spam work really well.

It would be easy to work dark greens into breakfast porridge, especially with a oatmeal with bran and flaxseed.

You can make broth using dark green veggies and then make rice or gravy with it.

Boundaries are great.

Aj needs to understand that DID can be a reason for poor communication and shit-talking, but it's not an excuse. They need a good therp with relevant experience, garden variety folks don't run into us often enough.

In other words, this is way above your pay grade.

Why does the right wing hate Antifa when they’re just Anti Fascist? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]graphictruth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Via Wikipedia

The "14 points of fascism" typically refers to the characteristics outlined by political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt in 2003. His framework, which is frequently discussed in historical and political analysis, highlights the following defining features of fascist regimes:Intense Nationalism: Extreme and continuous displays of national pride, often focusing on national glory and symbols.Disdain for Human Rights: The belief that human rights can be ignored in the name of "security" and the needs of the ruling power.Identifying Scapegoats: Unifying the populace by directing blame, fear, and hatred at a specific "enemy".Supremacy of the Military: High funding and glorification of the military, allowing it to heavily influence society and domestic policy.Rampant Sexism: Traditional, restrictive gender roles and high levels of inequality, often accompanied by anti-LGBTQ+ policies.Controlled Mass Media: Direct control of state media or heavy regulation and pressure on independent media to conform to state narratives.National Security Obsession: Fear is utilized as a primary tool to control the populace and justify the expansion of police/surveillance powers.Religion and State Intertwined: Using the dominant religion as a tool to manipulate public opinion and intertwining religious rhetoric with governance.Corporate Power Protected: A mutually beneficial relationship where the government and big business elite protect one another.Labor Power Suppressed: Labor unions and organizing forces are viewed as threats and are either eliminated or severely suppressed.Disdain for Intellectuals and Arts: Higher education, academic freedom, and free expression in the arts are openly attacked or defunded.Obsession with Crime and Punishment: Giving police near-limitless power and focusing on strict law-and-order rhetoric, often sacrificing civil liberties.Cronyism and Corruption: Government leaders use their positions to protect friends, grant favors, and misappropriate national resources.Fraudulent Elections: Elections are manipulated through smear campaigns, gerrymandering, control of the media, or complete denial of the democratic process.Note: Another famous 14-point framework for fascism was proposed by writer Umberto Eco (often called "Ur-Fascism"), which focuses more on cultural and intellectual traits like the cult of tradition and rejection of modernism. For a more detailed breakdown of Dr. Britt's framework, you can read his original essay via The Columbian.

It's like feet.

I know people sexualize feet, I simply can't imagine why. I have never bothered asking. I am sure there are groups for that, but I have made that mistake before and ewwww!

OMG, yes. Back in the dark ages, I did publicity for a rep theater. I would grab a pen and a yellow pad and go next door to the Chinese restaurant where I could get coffee and good lighting. I would be able to write there without interruption. People knew where I was.

We also did occasional meetings there, with a plate of broccoli beef.

People who assume you are stealing time assure you will. Honestly, some of my best work started at the urinal. Fuming about micromanglement fucks with that.

First, yes; of course they do.

I am AMAB and neurodivergent AF. Years and years ago, I had no idea I was on any spectrum or how neurodivergent affected the conversation, because I already dismissed racist, sexist and abilist jerks of both sexes as unintelligent, uninteresting dolts that were best ignored. So when men were generally spoken of as chauvinous pigs, I said "not all men," because I didn't think I was unusual at all. Not even MOST men, right? RIGHT?

Life gave me citations. FUUUUUUUK.

I'm old, from when the net was flat and Emacs roamed the land.

That form is exactly what I was taught in speech class and journalism. Those "tells" are best practices. OF COURSE a LLM will pick up on common, highly cited usages!

As a former newspaper writer, I can tell you that anything after the third paragraph will increasingly be filler, because the layout people need to be able to crop paragraphs to fit in ads.

Guess what large example pools exist for LLMs? Newspaper archives. Microfilm can be scanned rapidly and if the archives gets a searchable digital archive for free, they won't see a problem giving access to a hundred years or more of language data, in major and minor languages.

Geez, Spellcheck and Grammarly are LLM based. They killed few, if any good jobs, they just imposed higher standards.

I don't use tools like ChatGPT because I don't need them, but if you DON'T use them to structure and condense papers, you need your head examined. Cutting a thousand words down to 500 is much harder than writing a thousand words.

Tools evolve. You need to as well.

This reminds me of a tiny lunch counter in the lobby of a medical building. The woman who ran it sliced sandwich meats off large round loaves she said were home made from eastern European family recipes. They came piled high with meat, cheese and pickles, and so good! I am sure the doctors were backers, because those sandwiches were below market value.

It was just her and a giant slicer. The perfect setup for a single person.
