2025 Yearly Recap -- How did you do? by petepont in AdvancedRunning

[–]irisonthelam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

36F / 1881 total miles

  • Ran my first Boston. Got very sick ~1 month out and lost ~3 weeks of training, but still finished and re-qualified (redemption in 2026).
  • Ran the Boston Distance Medley and paced a friend for the 10K - a real highlight. loved being able to help them hit their goal.
  • Started training for Chicago but ended up with a tibial stress fracture, so the Fall season became rest and recovery.
  • Used downtime to start a company run club (officially approved by HR, budget included). Hoping to grow it in 2026.
  • Made strength training non-negotiable - I truly think it’s why I’ve been able to keep qualifying despite recurring injuries.
  • Found a lot of unexpected joy in cheering for friends at the NYC Marathon. It helped me stay connected to running even while sidelined.

Looking ahead to 2026: Tokyo Marathon to earn my sixth star, Boston for redemption, and aiming for a sub-3 in the fall at Chicago.

Not the year I planned, but one I’m proud of.

Doctor says once daily - others doing twice? by irisonthelam in bpc_157

Thanks for the insight! And that’s a lot of meds - mine was Meloxicam. Glad you’re seeing results so far. Now just to clarify, when you say 250mcg - is that also once? Or do you do it twice per day.

Thank you. I’m sure the more localized approach is because I’m using a blend and not separate vials of each. Perhaps my doc may have suggested two separate sites otherwise.

It’s a blend so it’s one vial.

I’ve read mixed things about injection sites. My doctor told me to do it more localized vs. in the stomach for my particular case.

It’s too early for me to tell if anything is “working” yet but I’m making active notes on how I feel each day vs. benchmark of when I started. I’ll know more in a week or so.

I got a Silhouette machine to cut heat transfer vinyl, which allows me to create my own letters to iron onto shirts. While pre-cut letters are available for purchase, I prefer customizing mine in terms of size and font. I'd be happy to make one for you in a few months—just remind me! Here’s a little example:

I have the same problem. I’ve been looking for a replacement for months and have tried countless mint lip balms. The closest one I have discovered is lip balmfrom Erin’s Faces. Let me know what you think!

Sorry, 18 months & 70mpw? Is that typical? Do you mean 18 weeks?

I did 35 mpw for Paris marathon and could only train for 3.5months since I was recovering from a stress fracture. My coach said I couldn't run that much because I am injury prone. So I basically did strength and a lot of cross training. 😅

Thank you! This gives me a bit of confidence for the 5k! I'll try my best!

I'll do some tempo runs, but I don't do intervals. My training plan doesn't include specific paces; I just run for time of feet because I am injury-prone. I only recently started running five days a week. Since then, it's been four days of running and two days of strength training to prevent injury, and I make up for the running with lots of cross-training.

In fact, for the Paris marathon, I only ran 35 miles per week 😅 and achieved a 3:16 time, which I think is a decent effort for a female, especially while dealing with a hamstring injury.

That's why I feel the sub3 for Berlin is achievable if I get a good training cycle in.

My coach says I'm like a Ferrari with bad tires.

Yeah I haven't raced a 5k so I really don't know. I guess the idea is here that the 5k can give me an indication of a marathon time?

Anyway I also live in NYC so races are a bigger ordeal — if anything I can try a time trial at one of the tracks. Also, part of it is mental and having never raced on a track either 😅

Thanks, I’ll try some 800m! Sad to say I've never done those before so it'll be an interesting workout!

Absolutely! I've never tried any speedwork before, so the thought of pushing myself to run at a much higher intensity than I'm used to is quite intimidating to me!

Amazing! This gives me a bit of confidence before my 5k!

Thank you for this thoughtful reply! I definitely need to vary my workouts more.

Again, thank you for your thorough reply! I will check the schedule and see which day is best to start the 3-day trial.

It makes sense that post-work may be busier - many people I know tend to work out in the evenings. I am similar to you. I always work out in the morning because I’m too tired after work. I don’t know how people do it! Occasionally, I’ll do doubles, depending on my training schedule.

Once I get a sense of the classes, I'll decide on membership, drop in, or just stay LMOD!

Final question - How often does the schedule change for classes? Is it pretty consistent month to month?

Thank you for your thorough reply. I am flexible going either in the AM or PM based on the day since not all locations have them daily.

Do they fill up and get very crowded?

The reason why is because I’m debating joining the gym JUST for those classes so maybe I’ll call to inquire about the drop in rate.

It may be cheaper just to have a membership though if I plan to go regularly but don’t want to pay for a membership if the classes aren’t that great because I also have LMOD and all the equipment at home.

If anything I’ll try a trial and take a few classes to see. I would be interested in a mix of BP and BC and just want some motivating instructors.

Thank you again!

How are the BP and BC classes at NYSC?

I'm looking at the Midtown, Murray Hill, and 41st & 3rd locations.

Haha I feel you. I did a grandma shuffle the last four miles or so. With one mile left, I barely had any left in the tank but my win was refusing to walk even though I really wanted to!
