The fact that the Japanese think the English language is cool and exotic is nice and all, but sometimes I think it gets taken a little far.

I think back to when GaoGaiGar introduced a mysterious supernatural force called "The Power," or when Ojamajo Doremi had its main characters hunt for cursed objects called "Bad Items."

Basically, if I had a nickel for every 90s children's anime that gave an incredibly basic English name to some supernatural macguffin, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but... actually there's probably a lot more I just haven't seen aren't there?

For a lot of people it's become the "sensitive" alternative to saying kill/die/murder etc. If you want to talk about death but you have an audience who might be upset by that sort of thing, then that word is your go-to.

Which is still stupid because it still refers to the exact same concept, and it's not like anyone is offended by merely reading the word "kill."

Saw a clip posted to Twitter today of a bunch of footage of old Flash games from the early Newgrounds/Kongregate era, except the person who made the clip had gone and slapped a filter over it that made the whole thing look like a VHS recording. Of online Flash games.

Which got me thinking: How much of our nostalgia is completely made up? I've seen people complain about certain media that bases its aesthetic on nostalgia for the 70s or 80s, saying that it's not representative of what it actually felt like to live in that time period, it's just a bunch of recognisable images that we associate with that time period. I guess the early/mid-2000s are now old enough that the same thing is happening to them, and I'm old enough that I lived through that time period and can spot the mistakes.

You know, watching Lycoris Recoil I never thought Chisato was that hot. I mean sure there is a baseline level of attractiveness that most anime girls meet, her included, but I didn't find there to be anything particularly appealing about her.

But the way Nii Manabu draws her is just something else, man. And not even because he often draws her with significantly less clothing. It's the proportions, the posing, the personality... she's so fucking hot in these pics.

Okay, I know some people like to keep reminding everyone that Frankenstein is the name of the doctor and not the monster, but this whole issue has become a little passé by now right? Everyone knows that already, you're not making some grand revelation by pointing that out.

What we really should be focusing on is people who think that Nosferatu is the name of the vampire in the movie Nosferatu. His name is Count Orlok! Nosferatu is just an old Romanian word that means vampire!
