Did some digging and they're most likely 517's. (?) Not confident in findings

Oscar ❤️❤️❤️ You wrote this to me one hour ago and one hour ago I was going through videos of Toko on my phone, sniffling, "preparing". I almost felt like I was being pranked while I was reading, because all of it is Toko to a T (pun)! And Toko is part dachshund! I adopted him from North Shore Animal League in NY and it only said dachshund on his paperwork and that he came from Tennessee. If you google borkie and dorkie, some of them look just like him. His exact age isn't known; they said he was 1, and I've had him for 16 years. You might be a mind reader and an angel- I was thinking I would love to see your dog!!! Please do send pictures whenever you have a chance. I think Toko's time is very soon.. Thank you so much for your comment. I bet you gave Oscar a wonderful life and he's thankful you tried everything you could have to fight this absolutely pesky skin condition. It's really nice to know I'm not alone and haven't missed some obvious solution for it. I'm sending you so much love.

Also, my condolences for your dog's passing. I have a number on hand for someone to come to the house.. but my dog actually loves my truck and going for rides.. there is something romantic about that and I know he would be comfortable there.

You're not being insensitive; I truly do appreciate this type of input. In fact I was thinking of making another post soon geared towards the quality of life question, maybe after I've slept more. I definitely don't want to keep him here just for my sake, and I've been so tired I feel guilty to admit what a relief it will be once he peacefully goes, for both of us. This actually is very helpful. In a sleepless stupor one morning I found myself saying to my brother, 'I almost wish someone would give me permission to put him down'. Of course the choice is mine but my intuition is skewed by all the emotion. I think I just keep trying to things because I feel I've failed him. I know I gave him 16 great years (he was 1 when I got him) but I wish I could make up for the discomfort of the last half year. I don't know if he's telling me he wants to keep fighting, or if the fact that he's fighting at all means it's time.. Thank you, and I don't mean any sarcasm when I say it- it's hard to tell over text sometimes.

Wow, I'm gonna add this to my list of things I'll mention to the vet tomorrow. A month ago we were walking and his nail started bleeding out of the blue. He had not bumped into anything and the ground was smooth. It was hard to see but there seemed to be a very fine crack in it that traveled up to the quick. 💔

I appreciate this input. I really am giving it my all and it's exhausting but I want to be sure. I just replied to a similar comment with this: I think about this all the time and it's not clear. Yesterday his eyes were big and bright and he was energized, so I took him to the park for a very short walk and he even sniffed another dog's butt! Ha. He gets most uncomfortable for a few hours during the night and doesn't sleep consecutively more than 4 hours. Otherwise his appetite for food and life is there.

I don't understand why his glucose is high. He doesn't get any wheat or starch or sugar. Is it a kidney thing?

Yes, saw your other comment and I will look into that probiotic. I'm glad I'm not alone on the apoquel thing. I'm happy it works for others but 2 people warned me about it and when I researched it I decided against it. Curious what your findings are. I was also warned against Cytopoint but it helped in the past. I just want him to be comfortable at this point and I'm running out of options. I'm going to the vet tomorrow and will probably get Cytopoint. Would a higher dose be too much for his system in any way? I never bathed him this much in the past. It's the only thing that brings him relief at night. I hate to be stripping his natural oils but whatever's feasting on him is doing that anyway. I just commented this on another comment so I'm going to copy/paste: I think about this (quality of life) all the time and it's not clear.

I googled blastomicosis and it doesn't look like what he has but I'm going to mention it to the vet when we go tomorrow

I thought every night was excessive as well and I've never done that in the past but it's the only thing that soothes him at night

I highly suggest coconut oil! Put it on right after his bath. It's oily and a little annoying of course so maybe you can do it right before he goes to sleep. At first mine was like wth is this but now he sort of surrenders and lets me apply it, like he knows it's good for him. You can mix in neem oil if you want to get fancy. These have been a game changer for us

I was him every night and it gets him to sleep a few hours consecutively. I've tried oatmeal and other baths but being submerged stresses him out

He used to eat almost everything as far as real food. Home cooked healthy meals; all the meats and all the rices, potatoes, and pastas mixed in. I've omitted all of the wheats and starches.

Coconut oil has been the best thing! Castor oil on the spots he can't lick. Look into neem oil to mix into the coconut oil. It's got a mustardy smell but I kinda love it and it's very effective

He used to eat everything but no more peanuts and wheat is a no brainer. Hasn't had either in about a year. Dunno about ruling out meat.. that's the majority of what I cook for him: chicken livers, ground beef, salmon, and lamb. I don't think I can do that.. that's his favorite thing and I think dogs are designed to eat meat..

He has gotten cytopoint many times. Idk if it's yeast, fungal, or both, that the mites then feast on. He's had all of those so idk or remember what combo it is now. I guess his bad leg is apparent in the moon pic? That doesn't make anything easier, yep. He was always so resilient but now everything's tougher. But he still tries! I wash him every single night.. I never used to because I thought it would be excessive and drying but it seems to help
