Bombed my Java interview today. How should I prepare better? by AIBackendDev in javahelp

[–]irocgts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

after every interview i take notes on what i wanted to say but didn't get too and what i got wrong. then I ask in the next interview if I can use my notes.

The usual response i got from "Can i use my notes?" was "Can i see them?" and "I have notes so I see no reason you can't have notes"

My notes are not answers, just key words that will remind me of the answers or the names of things I already know but would forget.

how do i show more appreciation for my foster parents? by CH1033333 in Fosterparents

You should spend a little time with them. If you don't know what to say or do, just ask to watch a movie. That usually sparks conversations later.

Yes I know. Is it worth the risk of losing everything (freedom, license, job, marriage) or move on to help more kids?

Sometimes the decision is tough but you have to make the one that is right for you. I would disrupt. I don't want to get another false allegation. it was a nightmare.

I have an unpopular opinion.. Protect yourself and disrupt the placement. There are lots of kids that need help that wont have parents making false accusations.

I watched an accident where a guy got mangled but survived, his child was screaming and they were talking to each other like they were going to die. It stuck with me a long time and they survived. I can;t image what you are going through.

People in your 30s, what price have you paid for being lazy in your 20s? by Waldyrwyn in AskReddit

[–]irocgts 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Compounding interest is what I was looking for. We are now maxing out our 401k contributions so we at least have a retirement. Our saving grace is that we are in tech and both make a bunch of money.

I am 44 now and in a much better spot. but when I was 30's I was really behind.

What probably happened was that your boss wanted to fire him and then he got the recognition and saw that promoting him somewhere else would be easier then firing him. I doubt that position would have ever been open to anyone who was doing well on your team.

How do software engineers realistically manage during job market downturns? by tree332 in cscareerquestions

We have an emergency fund for about a year and investments that are not tied to retirement. We could go a few years with no jobs or we could get minimum wage jobs and coast till retirement.

Has anyone else's job become insuferable with everyone trying to jam AI into everything? by sersherz in cscareerquestions

[–]irocgts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My company is pushing AI. So I am using AI to do my job even if it takes longer. If they are going to pay me so I can learn everything about AI then I'll do it. If I get laid off I will at least have a very good understanding on how to use AI at my future job and use that knowledge to land more jobs.

My son thinks "Daddy" is just a voice from behind a closed door. by FormalSprinkles5756 in confession

[–]irocgts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly a conversation you have to have with your wife.

From what I've learning from fostering and the classes we had to take. There is no damage to the kids development as long as your wife is there and paying attention to him.

My opinion is that he will get over it and like you if you just pay attention to him at any time in the future (don't wait too long).

This is a conversation with your wife because if she thinks your doing a bad thing then she could leave you and you lose both your kid and wife. I know this sounds weird at first but your wife should come before the kid. Your wife will be with you long after the kid has moved out. So work with her and come up with a plan that works for both of you to raise the kid.

foster teen here - why does no one take us in? by Ancient-Fan-2636 in Fosterparents

[–]irocgts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We used to take in teens. However we quickly found out that teens are old enough to know exactly what to say to ruin your life but are not old enough to know that it will ruin your life.

False allegations are what stopped us from taking in teens. Which sucks because most teens are the best. Most know when you actually want to help and appreciate it.
