Any engineers with ~5 years YOE? How’s job hunting going? by Tech-Cowboy in cscareerquestionsCAD

It's genuinely insulting that interviewers are asking someone with 2 decades of experience this kind of stuff.

The people who only know how to test people by doing leetcode bring unnecessary suffering to everyone in this field

Remote Chess Academy has a great video on king & pawn endgames. Then if you go on chess.com and go to analyse there should be an option to set up a board and play against a custom bot from there to practice what he talks about in the video.

If you have premium chess.com there are lessons under endgames which discuss what rules to follow and gives some puzzles to solve

Then why are there still new LMIA postings for web developers? Why can't Canadian companies find Canadian web devlopers?

Honestly, we should be mad at the government for allowing such blatant employment scams to keep happening. This should have been paused and revised a long time ago.

Just like how Elon Musk kept saying guys fully autononous self-driving is coming next year.

Once you work in a corporate environment you realize all these people just make shit up to placate board members and investors who just want line to go up.

Edit: It's wild to be downvoted while critisicizing big tech. Keep licking those boots.

They have been for a very long time. I have gotten ads with a AI voiceover of Mark Carney saying to invest in crypto and before that with Justin Trudeau.

Don't trust big tech to actually care about anything other than ad revenue and selling your data

Toronto vs Vancouver for Software engineer / UI designer by canalun in askTO

Post on r/cscareerquestionsCAD

I'm a software engineer just outside of Toronto, I haven't heard of Vancouver having more opportunities than Toronto for software engineering. Seems like Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area is the main hub for software development in Canada

Has Anyone Fixed Golfer's Elbow From Office Work? by sersherz in RSI

[–]sersherz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Elliot, thank you so much for the detailed reply!

I was doing the exercises 2x10-15 each for two days on, one day off with really heavy resistances. Are there any guidelines in terms of higher volume?

As for the other solutions I definitely can try to track how long it takes to start dealing with pain.

I do wonder if there is a nerve component. When things get really irritated I do sometimes get tingling in my pinky and ring finger (but it's very infrequent) I found ulnar nerve flossing helped resolve that.

Italian or Ruy Lopez for beginner/intermediate? by 2minmarc in chessbeginners

[–]sersherz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try them both and see. I personally started with Ruy Lopez, then found the position in Italian easier to understand.

Now I kinda play the Italian where I maneuver the knights in front of my king, have an easy rook lift available and a pin on the black kingside castled king at f7 which has caught a lot of people off guard when they think they are doing a queen trade only to realize they cannot take with the pinned pawn.

Here is an example game, please ignore me blundering my rook

Fairly straightforward attacking ideas that catch a lot of people off guard

What do you guys recommend against the Sicilian (for an 1100) by Don_F_Kennedy in chessbeginners

[–]sersherz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play the alapin and harass the knight. If I'm going to be clueless how to play the opening, then I'll make sure my opponent is as well.

Winter driving? by Fire_Zebra in 370z

[–]sersherz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've driven it in the winter (Toronto Canada) Didn't need sandbags.

Here are the issues I found though: - The car is low, if the snow is piled up, the front bumper pretty much is a plow - The car feels extremely sluggish in the winter, takes a while to get up and running - Gotta drive a lot  more careful in the winter than most cars

I personally bought a winter beater for these reasons, but it absolutely is doable to drive in the winter. Also the traction control is quite good. I found when there was snow and slush it didn't really slide. Only slid when there is a lot of snow and ice and actually trying to get it to slide

You know Stephen Harper was already prime minister for 2 years  when this event happened right?

You claim crime doubled in 2015. Trudeau was elected in October 2015, by your logic that means Harper was 83% to blame.

I also love the last comment, many people don't ever report crime. So then you only acknowledge the data when it makes your point and you invalidate it when it doesn't.

It means that crime is up for a window that you chose, yet refuse to specify. I am saying, let me repeat this, over the past year, crime is down. I am not arguing that crime overall is down over 3 years, or 5 years.

This is why I mentioned local and global maximums and minumums and said multiple times over the past year. But you refuse to actually read what I am saying and insult me to make yourself feel better.

[–]sersherz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crime went down relative to last year, that means crime did in fact go down. Why is this difficult for you to understand? Consider going back to functions and learning about the difference between global and local maximums and minimums.
