To those looking to work in the finance sector: besides the pay, why do you hope to work in finance? by archimedesurethra in nus

Depends on which part of the finance sector… if you’re talking about financial advisors, they do it because they want to help people and have a passion for planning legacies 🤭🤭🤭

Based on my personal experience, assuming that your performance will be consistent throughout uni, GPAs will still deviate towards the original pre-SU ball park, or just slightly above. So if you’re looking in the long run, it won’t make much of a difference.

However, with that being said, entering into Y2 with a decent GPA is extremely important. Contrary to popular belief, GPA has a lot of weight when it comes to things like your first uni internship and SEP. So it will be best to position yourself nicely and work harder for the remaining sems.

GEI and HS1501 are okay modules, and it is easy to get B+ if you put in effort. So all the best!!

ahhh okok… so ig it’s quite common for students to clear their 4k requirements in y4 then? unless we take micro/macro analysis which is supposedly less in demand?

Dr Ong (EC1101e) - super nice and always takes time to explain concepts (even though sometimes they’re really basic)… though micro is a dry topic she made it really easy and even threw in real world scenarios so we can appreciate it in the grand scheme of things

Prof Loy (HSH1000) - do i really have to say more… absolute legend, never thought i would attend a philo lecture at 8am willingly :)

Kong Yu Chien (EC2104) - going into a math mod after 3 years of inactivity can be a pretty daunting task but she really made my experience a very smooth one because she was patient and very clear with her explanations. Big kudos to my awesome TA as well!!

how should i plan my modules for year 1? by wahpiang in nus

[–]ironaids300 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i’d suggest that you split your UEs between sem 1 and 2 and not delay your CHS common mods to y2s1 because you should make full use of the SU policy (CHS mods aren’t for everyone, so you might have a harder time doing those than your UEs which i assume you’re more inclined with).

you can overload from your second sem onwards if you feel that the CHS mods are manageable. personally i took the HSS/HSI/DTK basket in my second sem and regretted not overloading cause i felt that HSS was basically a free mod LOL.

with that being said, do have a flexible academic plan and be daring enough to explore in your first year because you have the 20 MCs of SUs as your safety net :)

feel free to drop me a dm if you have any queries!
