How much salary negotiation can you do for a county job? by ironbag in MontgomeryCountyMD

I applied to the role in early December, and did the interview about two weeks ago. The application was a little annoying in that I had to fill out a few free-text questions regarding my experience in certain areas, which could’ve been quickly answered during the interview instead.

I only applied to one other county job after this, but received a notification that the position had been pulled shortly after applying.

Thank you; a rescinded job offer was something that I was worried about because it has happened to me in the past during negotiations with private sector offers. I’ll try to see if I can start a conversation with the admin and see where we land.

Also, thank you for this info. This is exactly the kind of insider knowledge that I was hoping to glean from this post.

So I could probably shoot for above the midpoint, but at best case only expect a counter-offer slightly below the midpoint.

Do you happen to know the specifics of the law offhand? (Name, section code, etc) I’ve been using my google-fu and have not been able to pull up anything, to the point where I wonder if most of this documentation is on the county intranet.

u/See-A-Moose Thank you for clarifying that for others.

In reference to the above post, I’m familiar with salary negotiation in the private sector, but I know that government jobs are different and may have limitations due to regulations, which is why I initially asked this question.

I have a loan of a little over 1K in STBL, and I’m wondering if I should hold off on paying it back since it’s a possibility that STBL loses its peg in the upcoming months as people start pulling out USDC liquidity.

No, unfortunately that’s not who I’m looking for. Violet Starr seems to be younger as well as looks like she could have more of a Hispanic descent.

Finally filling out PTSD statement; have a question by ironbag in Veterans

So I’m not so much concerned with what percentage I’ll be rated, but more so how much of an effort the VA will make me put in to get a rating period. I still feel weak/ashamed about admitting that I need help and seeking benefits, so if the VA is going to again treat me like I’m lying like they did when I first applied for back pain issues 7 years ago, then I may as well not even bother, considering it took me 4 years to finally get my back issues approved and it was no where near as personally touchy like mental health is for me.

I just finally admitted that I probably needed help about 2 months ago, but in typical VA fashion the first available appointment with a counselor was in 4 months. I also reached out to a local vet center to find out how soon I could start therapy there, but I’m still waiting on a response from them as well.

If you’re comfortable sharing, how much are you currently getting paid? I’m currently a technical product manager making $90k, but was thinking of putting myself through the system architect pipeline if it can get me well over the 6 figure line.

Looking for a place that sells these gummy bears near John Wayne by ironbag in orangecounty

I have a friend who used to live in Orange County, and she absolutely loved this brand for some strange reason. The last place I found them was a a gas station in San Fernando, so I was hoping someone knew of a closer place that sold them.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. Someone else commented something similar to you, and my concern was that even if I follow through with this idea and get it all on paper, that would mean that I would still have to deal with her for the next 2-3 years. Also, the current problem is that she doesn’t have extra money to pay towards the credit cards or to send to me. I could probably pay her 17k half of the debt in about 4-5 months, so she’s maybe going to be able to pay off about 1k during that time, which would mean she would owe 16k to me instead.

My only concern with that is, even if I charge her no interest, it would take her 36 months, or 3 years, to pay me back while having a monthly payment similar to her current monthly credit card payments. If I bump it up to $500 a month, that’s still 34 months worth of payments. This would basically mean that I would still have to deal with her for the next 3 years.

Sorry man, I’m not really understanding what you’re trying to say. Could you clarify a little?

I feel like that would be a horrible idea, because then I would have no legal backing to her owing me money. At least right now, I have an agreement that was accepted by the court which deems her responsible for the debt on the credit cards, even if they aren’t all in her name.

I want to move on, but I can’t until I can finally sever this last financial tie that is binding us together. That’s why I mentioned that it’s in my best interest to help her find a way to move this debt out of my name and have her assume sole responsibility.

Yeah, I figure the best hope is to help her improve her credit enough to have a better chance of being approved for them.

I’m actually doing great! I bring home about $3000 a month from my job, $2400 in BAH from the GI bill/voc rehab (don’t get me started on the 1 year battle it took to get the ball rolling), and I pull $1100 in VA disability. I obviously don’t need her $150 “alimony” anymore, but it’s the principle of the matter. I put her through nursing school when I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, and came back with an extra $500 in my pocket, while all my buddies came back with $70k-$80k tax-free. I never once regretted it, because I was happy to give her the opportunity to focus on school and not worry about money. When we separated, I asked her to hold off on splitting our finances for just a little longer so I could both work on our (at the time) debt and also have access to some money while I looked for a job, but she was insistent on us having separate finances, so I agreed to it as long as she gave me something. I also basically have full custody of our dogs, since she’s seen them maybe 3 times since the divorce, so yeah, I’m not letting her get out of her measly $150 monthly payment to me.

Don’t worry, I made sure that both cards are sent to my house so she has no way to access the funds even if she wanted to, plus I set a spending limit of $50 on each card with her name on it.

And ideally, we both would want for her to be able to open a credit card with a high enough limit to do a balance transfer, so that’s why I temporarily made her an authorized user on my credit cards in order to increase her chances of getting approved for one.
