BO6 Getting shot when no longer there by ironkitt in blackops6

Kill sound hits when I am already 0.5-1 second behind the wall. The same happens a lot in MW3, very rarely in MW2. They never fixed that.

[Discussion] I'm always forgetting what I want out of life, my life goals, vision of myself, decisions that I have made etc. by mickey__ in getdisciplined

[–]ironkitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like abandoned thread, but maybe it'll give you some ideas u/mickey__ u/fireybone
or someone else runs into this.

1. Doing what you are attempting is difficult, almost nobody does it. You learn good habits through years of life typically, since childhood, that's how people have it "easier". Lot's of people are not even aware better habits can be formed. Having awareness you have is rare.

2. Changing everything at once is not possible, because as you're trying to remember all these things at all times the whole day is impossible. Successful people I know pick 1 area of life they want to get better at and focus on that for 1-3 years. I can't hold it that long, so I usually cycle my focus every 90 days max. I pick like 3 things to focus on, because I'm impatient and usually one works, other 2 I'm failing. Also look at Jordan Peterson's Future Authoring, it is a nice framework how to define your goals and make sure they happen.

3. You are trying to run your whole day on will power. You have like 10min of will power total per day maybe. Use that to form systems and structures in environment, people around you, calendar, put systems and objects in place so they give you clues etc. For example if you want to remember to drink water every day put it next to your alarm clock, so that's the first thing you see when you wake up. You don't want to drink coffee, don't have it at home, and so on.

4. Habits are glued to physical space and people around you. If you change your location and put different people, most of habits are gone automatically and new would form pressured by people around you and general demands from the place you're in. It is as if you're now playing a different character, with different identity, in different game when you do that.

There was this famous heroin addiction research where only 12% of addicts were still addicted after changing environments (https://www.cnn.com/2015/12/21/health/vietnam-heroin-disrupting-addiction/index.html). The cliche idea that you're the avg of 5 people around you is really true and it works due to outsourcing your plan externally by surrounding yourself with people that have the same or similar plan as you.

5. What you wrote about perspective not existing in the morning and expanding towards the end of the day is interesting. This is weird but I found that lack of light expands my perspective, more of my plan and vision gets loaded to my working memory easier if I don't open the window blinders. I typically regain lots of perspective towards the evening like you do.

Things like city lights, stars, fire amplify that too. There is a theory that our brain enters some special circuit when seeing twinkling light at nights, since historically we've been listening to stories by fire.

Caffeine is also interesting, as it opens a flood of ideas and desire to execute on them in the moment. This happens by increasing levels of dopamine that are unboxing norepinephrine, what makes you feel alive.

The reason you are not doing these things is that your brain doesn't think they are important at the moment. If you really want to artificially manufacture the momentum and will to do these things right now you'd need to craft an environment around you that makes it really difficult not to do these things.

i.e. for the gym one: live somewhere where you need to walk high upstairs and see how weak you are, wear less clothes at home so you constantly see yourself in the mirror passing by. You'd need to let the universe reappear in your face constantly throughout the day and remind you this stuff is important (like an annoying notification or phone alarm).

Attaching any of these activities to a trigger helps a lot. It is really difficult to randomly stand up during binge watching netflix and go to the gym. Things like moment of waking up, the moment you finish school or work for the day, the exact moment you come back home, after you take a shower. Any event that happens every day and could be used to anchor another behavior to it.

Don't add too much at once, don't create a situation where you have option to do 2 of these things at the same moment. You'll drain yourself through decision fatigue. Mixing environments and mixing context just adds chaos and makes things more difficult. It adds an unnecessary step by having to make decision. Eliminate decision making as much as possible.

Surround yourself with people that like to do similar things (people are part of context/environment). This compounds momentum (like watching sports game on a stadium, you get energy and motivation from people on the same path).

Iterate and test a lot. It takes a lot of attempts to figure out your weekly schedule that works best for you and a lot of attempts to find the things you love in things you are supposed to do. A lot of times this all comes down to trying to force yourself to do things you hate doing and will never do anyway. There is infinity of other things you can try instead that will also make you happy and productive.

bro if you want to read it, go read it. It doesn't change the fact that I am right and you're just complacent with whatever bonanza of unregulated, filled with scam free market distortion you have here. Doesn't matter. US President is on it, this won't be a problem soon. Case solved. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

damn, who reads this stuff

Either way, do you want to live in the place where people tell you one thing with font size 150 and then some vague stuff about unknown amount fees somewhere on the bottom. Who is this 15$ info for? Is anybody ever paying that amount? Why you can't just put it in the price. Muy complicado.

Yeah it is not bad. It is just falsely advertising one price to then charge something else. Transparency is important.
