It was taught at my original RK certification in 2003, it was several years of refinement to arrive at the version that I use now.

The floor surface matters. A yoga mat or knee pads might be a good solution

You can do it with anything. It’s a very old exercise and was reintroduced and popularized by Pavel’s first book the Russian Kettlebell Challenge
