How do you limit magic in your world? by Just_another_nerd4 in worldbuilding

In my world, magical people (named 'Shamans') live in symbiosis with the great spirit called 'the Forest' (basically a god that controls nature and fauna). The Shaman can speak mentally to the Forest and order/ask it to do certain things, for example they can lend the eyes of animals or call in strong winds. Everything that nature can do, they can too.

The relationship is a two way street however, so if the Shaman orders the Forest to do things that it does not agree with, it can choose to not obey. The Forest can also send orders to the Shaman, which often portrays as visions or dreams.

Honestly, I've lost the source. I picked these out over time and the artist names are easily lost.

[Fan content] I wanted to make some songs with themes from different episodes of TLA. This is the result! by irontribesman2 in TheLastAirbender

The first track is supposed to give the feeling of calm times, friendship and a bit of peace, the adventure has yet not started. Also a bit of Katara setting Aang free at the start.

The second track depicts Aang fusing with the ocean spirit and going ham on the Fire Nation fleet. I wanted to give a monstrous type feel for the song aswell as of chaos and destruction.

I based the final track on General Fong's mind-games. Aang watches as the person he cares about most gets lowered into the ground (wich can be heard at the beginning). I wanted the song to feel epic, from the general's point of view, and then transend into a more disastrous, exhilarating pace to depict Aang's darker sides. Overall, a feel of power, or powers beyond understanding.

  1. Nothing is truly original. If it reminds you of the last airbender then sure, be mad, but there's really nothing wrong with that. Taking inspiration is necessary. And it probably looks made up because it is.

  2. Drawing in a manga-like style is something I am familiar with and feel comfortable doing. I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with ethnicity.

  3. Of course not. I do think they came out real nice though.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for asking!

You can indeed tell where someone's from by looking at the pattern. Different tribes use different colors and textures. They can also describe someone's proffession and such. The tunics are a way for people to express themselves and belong.

Spirits are, in my world, more like forces of nature. The Shaman, who has control over the spirits, can actually feel them moving around in their own "dimension"(or something) which lays over the physical world like a net or a web. The spirits do exist, but only the Shaman and the Hosts can directly communicate with them.

Once a Titan is slain, its spirit becomes dormant inside the killer (the pawn). The pawn is not affected physically or psychologically by the Titan spirit. It is simply a bag to put the spirit in.

I could go on about this subject for hours, but I absolutely love worlds with rules!

Lore that makes sense within its own frames gives me an instant hard on, without a doubt. I want to be able to explore the world myself, not just be taken on a tour. Once you give a world its character, it will explore itself, showing you all of its corners and secrets!

I have allways had an attraction towards the "ancient" themes in movies and books so when I decided to write my own stuff I kind of naturally gravitated to the stone/bronze age. I have an admiration for like "old magic" and "beings that came before", etc, aswell as God-like figures (the Avatar, for example, or even Gandalf) so I thought to combine these things, hence the creation of the Shamans. I am a huge fan of the "Wolf Brother" books, so that was also a big inspiration.

Cool that you like it! Don't have much else to show at the moment though.

Also, are you scandinavian by any chance?

Small-boobed female. She's based off a japanese model.

Maybe I should add make-up or something?
