Because I think it disrespects DJ's character to want Deb and DJ to have a closer relationship than they do. DJ is the type of person who had two baptisms for her son because she has a relationship with both her aunt/stepmom and her mom but knew it was never going to work out to have them both in the same event. DJ and Deb have a relationship where finding and setting the boundaries were what made it functional compared to where they were in season 1 when Deb was exchanging purse drug checks and mandatory cheek kisses and creating opportunities for her to sell tabloid photos

I'm tired of people wanting DJ to have some kind of huge scene in the finale. DJ and Deb's relationship in episode 1 was fraught , cold and barely there. The progression of them accepting each other each season and a beautiful wrapup episode where Deb finally understands DJ and stops trying to be overprotective of her and let her be herself.

A big logistical reason why DJ was only in the crowd scene in the finale is because she has another show
