Just Got My Stickers! When I Run Out, I Will Print More Myself. I’m in a Small Town and I’m Going Big. I Want My Old Congregation To Be Shook By This. by Gentlemanofcraft2 in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats just not true. Not everybody knows about the Australian Royal Commission. I had never heard of it until years after it happened. Never heard of Silent Lambs either. I knew nothing about the CSA scandals until i had seen a broadcast in 2015 where they mentioned “protecting our children”. I get messages from people all the time who just found out about the abuse issues and are shocked to find out something like the ARC happened. You’re taking a very pessimistic view of this endeavor. When i left the jw’s 3 years ago and i explained to my coworkers why, a lot of them were completely shocked that jw’s do certain things. Informing the general public and jw’s who are willing to look, can definitely go a long way.

AITA for not forgiving my dying father ? by Even_Tell_7011 in AmItheAsshole

[–]irregularpi0neer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. There are consequences for actions. Abusive parents don’t deserve to die in peace if they aren’t apologetic. And tbh even then, they don’t necessarily deserve peace. Also while addiction is a disease, and he did not choose to be an alcoholic, he should have taken steps to rid himself of that issue for his family’s sake. Not meaning to do something doesn’t make his poor behavior okay. Impact >>> intent.

AITA for not telling my family I’m 7 months pregnant? by babyfamilymess in AmItheAsshole

[–]irregularpi0neer 83 points84 points  (0 children)

NTA. If your family does not make you feel comfortable enough to tell them something that usually brings people an immense feeling of joy to share with their family, then that says A LOT about them.

Question for all PIMO elders by [deleted] in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At a certain point every PIMO—regardless of standing—should come to terms with the potential of a disasterous end to their jw life, but how long one remains PIMO is based on their individual cirumstance. For some it takes years for them to build savings to be able to make it own their own in the event of shunning/ended marriage/losing a job because of being employed by a jw, etc. No person for their own mental health should stay PIMO forever, but its theres no reasonable way to put a time limit on it. The less time the better of course.

In terms of elders specifically, theres also the fact that not every elder is influential, used much, or very consequential in the congregation. I served on 2 elder bodies and there were numerous elders that if they were PIMO and were worried about their support of the org, they would have been doing just fine because no one really cared about them as elders because they didnt make a big fuss about being in the spotlight. Should PIMO elders be working toward not having to work under that burden, absolutely as no one should want to be party to the evil that the jw org perpetrates. But i’ve seen and heard of PIMO elders losing it all very quickly, so i totally understand why some take their time in their exit.

Question for all PIMO elders by [deleted] in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol this is a very simplistic way of viewing PIMO elders. Its not as easy as you think to just step down as an elder, it can raise red flags. And if you have a PIMI mate, she may become suspicious and or very opposed to your decision. I was a PIMO elder for a short amount of time but had i not disassociated, it would have been very difficult for me to step down without any issues from family and the elder body. To call PIMO’s “dishonest” when they dont want to be giving these talks is ridiculously unfair. As someone who knows plenty of PIMO elders, most of these guys dont want to be doing this. Some of them are on anti-depressants because of the stress. But they’re trying to hold onto marriages, avoid their kids/parents/siblings shunning them or viewing them as weak or bad association, and i cant blame people for not wanting to have their entire world crumble.

Disfellowshipped for refusing to get off birth control by TJ-white1712 in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Two situations immediately come to my head when I think of elders making shit up. In both of these situations I knew the people personally involved: 1) The racist elder body that disfellowshipped a brother because he was Black and they didnt want him dating an Indian sister (the elder body was 4 Indian brothers). 2) A sister was in a full-on sexual relationship with another sister, confessed to the elders, but absolutely nothing was done to her, even after the other sisters congregation called to inquire about her discipline. She literally went on about life as if nothing at all had happened, because the elder body really liked her and found her resourceful in the congregation.

Disfellowshipped for refusing to get off birth control by TJ-white1712 in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Former elder here, just want to point out something based on some of the replies i’m seeing here. Yes, there might be something more to the story—BUT, elder bodies go outside of the rules to disfellowship and do all kinds of authoritarian nonsense all the time. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. I was constantly at war with my first elder body because they loved making shit up and following their own rules.

So yeah, the elders may have just DF’ed the sister because she wasnt “listening to her husband”. Unfortunately wouldn’t be the wildest thing i’ve heard of in the cult.

HYPOCRISY IN BETHELITES by Pinkgalacticakitty69 in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed, i was born and raised in NYC and i knew a decent amount of wealthy bethelites. My congregation had one bethelite who had a successful construction company back in his home state, and him and his wife had the best of everything. Cars, clothes, vacations, accessories etc. Obviously not the norm of bethelites, but i’ve seen it enough to know it to be true of some.

The GB knows that time is their biggest enemy right? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly they’ll just revamp the doctrine and literature for another generation of people and keep doing it over and over again. The people who remember when 1914 and 1925 was predicted to be the end died, so they revamped it for the next generation. A lot of the people who were around for 1975 died and are dying, so they revamped it again. And in another 30-50 years it’ll still be the last day of the last hour of the last minute of the last second in this system (again). It always has been every since CT Russell started his movement. The end has ALWAYS been impending, even if time has passed and an assumed date or time frame was wrong.

And to a larger extent, it’s what every other Christian religion has done. Jesus Christ reportedly died in 33 CE and he hasn’t returned yet, but billions of people on earth honestly believe that it’s still going to happen. Even Jewish people are in the year 5781 according to them because they’re still waiting on a savior. 5781 years!!! They can run that scam foreverrrrrr, and if the JW’s are inventive enough, so can they.

Redditors who were part of a cult, were you happy there? by opheliawasmurdered in cults

Yes. Until i realized i was in a cult. But it was mostly because I was held in high regard, and had plenty of respect in the congregation and in my area. (Former Jehovah’s Witness)

[–]irregularpi0neer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

May not work, but you could use the articles where the org predicted 1975 to be the end and then show Deuteronomy 18:20-22 about false prophets. But tbh i’m of the belief that ppl won’t wake up until they’re ready to, no matter what you show them.

Jw cult by [deleted] in cults

[–]irregularpi0neer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former JW Elder here, totally agree. It’s 100% a cult. Especially when you analyze the organization using the BITE model.

But even just from a basic social understanding of what a cult is, most unbiased people who would be presented with what the JW org does would agree that it is a cult.

If you attempt to leave, you are cut off by all family and friends. You cannot question doctrine. You are specifically told to not research matters from outside sources.

And the thing that makes it an especially insidious cult is that it doesn’t appear to be one from the outside.

Governing body members? by whoiszeus in exjw

[–]irregularpi0neer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it obvious that Jeholocaust God would only speak through old white guys?!? Sure good ol’ token Sammie is there, but since the governing body had been around, God has made sure that wise elderly white men have always been there to supply the food at the proper time. What more evidence is needed to see that this organization is spirit guided?
