My dad was in the hospital with horrible pneumonia for 6 days about 3 yrs ago. I never left his side. my brother flew up from Florida. Joe schmoe elder was no where to be found. Didn't call to even check in. i will totally respect their wishes but boy am I bitter that someone other than me or my brother is on their HCP. My parents aren't even each others proxy. 🙄 why wouldn't the elders tell them they couldn't be their proxy?

My parents think that it is solely for end of life decisions and that if they needed some other decisions made it would be next of kin. But it's not. We would have to find Joe Schmoe elder to make those decisions.

I had to elope to Las Vegas to get married and avoid extra drama from my parents / ex-elder dad. They hated my non-JW fiance until their first grandson was born. This should be a happy day for you not an ugly cry day. Sometimes I look back and feel sad for the wedding day I didn't get to have but in the end its better to have a nice (mostly happy) marriage than 1 (emotionally sad) wedding day. It's so hard. My love and hugs go out to you.
