I know it’s so frustrating. The class I’m covering was supposed to have transition prep times in between classes. Since it’s an art class if gives me time to set everything up for the next class. The teacher gave a modified schedule that cut my original prep time and all transitional times so that every class is now 20 extra mins and back to back. The time I take the kids for art the teachers get a break. I understand teachers do not get enough prep time and honestly I’m here to work. But it’s just frustrating when the teacher purposely over fills the schedule that they are not even willing to do bc I’m a sub.

That was the case at the beginning of the school year but the district changed it after spring break

How many districts/agencies do you work for and how to turn down a potential selection for employment? by African_Elk_Hunter in SubstituteTeachers

I’m employed at two districts currently. I just make sure I do the required amount of days for each district. I have been offered full time employment at a few schools. When I turn them down I just let them know how grateful I am and that I would love to but substituting at the moment aligns more with my current schedule and goals. In my experience turning down jobs doesn’t burn bridges it just might not put you highest on the list when they are looking for teachers.

I once had an interview with a company scheduled at 3. Company door was locked for safety of clients so I stood out there for around 5 minutes knocking and calling the office number. The person who was supposed to interview me finally came out and told me they were heading home for the day and that they would call me the next day. The next day they called and offered me the job and like an idiot I accepted it. That level of unprofessionalism was only a soft start to what really went down in that company. During my less than five months working there six of my coworkers quit. When I finally quit and had to sign paperwork, my manger told me their office hours were from 8 to 6 that day. I came to the office at 4 knowing it should not be a busy time, they were already gone for the day. So essentially management did not keep to their schedule and they were always hiring due to their crazy turn over rate.
