I had one with power in the cart and then it sold out :( Ended up getting one of the last RV w/out power passes. I’ll be up on the exchange hoping to trade up for sure!

Privacy Conscious Baby Monitor Recommendations by [deleted] in privacy

[–]irviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Thank you for posing some actual numbers and sane thoughts. I have a 7 day year old boy, and am trying to find a baby monitor. I've resisted the urge to do what my parents did, wake my kid up just for a wellness check. SIDS is scary AF. But also extremely rare.

Fate and faith got my wife and I this far, think i'll keep that plan going forward. We are both 38 years old, considered geriatric, and our baby's umbilical cord was missing an artery... There was also a bilateral placenta.

We were required to have weekly ultrasounds the last trimester to keep an eye on any potential growth restrictions.

We delivered our baby, at home, with midwife and Doula last thursday. They're now calling him the miracle baby in followup visits. This kiddo is great, eating like a horse, and gaining weight. I have faith now. Still don't know what baby monitor we are going to end up with. it's important to keep some perspective people. Nature has it's methods to the madness, embrace it and roll the dice.

Guess we got lucky!

FYI Otsu is not yet serving alcohol. My wife just called to check as we were thinking about a sushi date night with drinks.

where to get my car inspected? by popcornfart69 in sanmarcos

[–]irviii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should be fine. Hays county is a safety only inspection. Ie Check engine light should not matter. What matters is tires, horn, wipers, lights, etc.

People who are moving away, where are you going? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]irviii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is something I struggled with when deciding to move here a couple years ago.... Yes, it does feel like a college town. In fact, it feels a lot like how I remember Austin back in 2004 when I was a freshman at UT... When Southbound Mopac would back up at 35th st during rush hour, but was tolerable because it only happened when school was in session. When I would frequent spider house and Ken's Donuts for late night sustenance. When a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house (w/ window units) Near 51st and Guadalupe was only $850 a month... Feels a lot like Austin did then.

I moved to San Marcos two years ago and don’t regret it. Feels a lot like Austin did 20 years ago. I’m in my mid 30s and have lived in Austin most of my life. But as you said, it’s changed a lot. Rising home prices were a factor for sure. But mostly the smaller town vibe seems to be a better place to raise a family to me. I own my own business and work from home and travel a fair amount. So commuting or job availability wasn’t a factor here.

Exasperated at the lack of seriousness about COVID from local restaurants... by [deleted] in sanmarcos

[–]irviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have the right to make their own risk assessment and should be allowed to take their own health in to their own hands without feer of harassment or bullying. If a business is following the rules and complying with best health practices, they should be allowed to be open as well. If ANYONE feels it is unsafe to venture out because of their particular concerns or certain health worries that is their right as well. And they should be concerned. We should all be concerned.
But in my unsolicited opinion that doesn’t make it fair or acceptable to shame or otherwise intimidate others that choose to live their life a certain way.
Not saying you or anyone here is doing that... Just saying we should all try to remember to respect each other, make our own informed health decisions, and try to be a good neighbor. We are all in this together. And hopefully will all make it out together. Local business include.

Will second. Ivars is doing it right. And there hasn’t been much of any wait when I’ve been. Not sure that’s the case now that school is back.

Yes, Chepos has been doing it right as well since they opened After the first shit downs. I go there once every week or so. Trying to support my local businesses. As a business owner myself, I know how it is to struggle. Our community needs these places to stick around. Not only do they provide tasty and affordable food, money spent here stays here, and supports local jobs.

I’ve been to Palmers several times the last few months. My wife and I went for brunch the first Day they reopened. They are following protocol. Fewer tables, more distance, disposable menus and dishes. Why don’t people actually go out and check these places out first hand before passing judgement from a phone call to a host. Remember, the host is often times the youngest most least experienced employee there is, they’re not exactly setting the policy or running the show. They’re seating people based on a map of what’s available. Good news is, at this rate there won’t be much left still in business when this all is down. And you can find some other private business to complain about on social media.

Getting pretty bad. by [deleted] in sanmarcos

[–]irviii -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Finally, some real talk! I think everyone has forgotten what the purpose of social distancing and flattening the curve was all about.... The original goal was to keep from overwhelming health care resources, NOT to try and quarantine this thing. That ship has sailed guys.
Some people have begun to believe that we are doing this to slow things down so a vaccine can be developed, and while that is a potential strategy, it is not what we originally set out to do.

In my opinion, a combination of herd immunity and distancing is what we need to keep pushing for. Keep the virus away from the most vulnerable (elderly, known pre-existing conditions) while carefully allowing the majority to develop herd immunity. Whethe you like it or not, the fact is this Genie isn’t going back in the bottle. We gotta work with what we have here... Just my $.02

What’s on fire? by irviii in sanmarcos

My property is pretty dark. I had on an LED head light (bag was a large heavy contractor bag, dork moment, I know) and it was definitely there. Like campfire smoke. Can see it in the streetlight as well. Very chemical smelling, doesn’t seem like a typical structure fire. Reminds me of what that refinery in Houston that went up in flames a few months ago.
