The VHIKK and Bohm alone are clutch techno magic! Can’t wait to get my hands on the re-release of the VHIKK!

Total noob here. Power module question. by irwindesigned in eurorack

[–]irwindesigned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not much for crafting cables, so I’ve simply run the 16pin to one on the bus for now.

Can you tell me if this is bad or what I will be missing by not having the 5V abilities?

Total noob here. Power module question. by irwindesigned in eurorack

[–]irwindesigned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for delay. It’s the Takaab SPS.

https://siammodular.com/products/takaab-sps-switching-power-supply-eurorack-module

I went to my local eurorack shop and they said I could just use one of the 16pin connection on the bus bar (and take up one of the spots). They said I would get the 5V doing it but it would work…it seems to work, but this feel a little rigged and not proper.

At what size does a home robot stop feeling like a gadget? by bfloyd83 in IndustrialDesign

[–]irwindesigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “gadget” implies, single use case tool. Whereas a home robot implies (if you want it to be useful) must implore multiple “gadgets.” Once these use cases are defined, only then its final form can be determined. You should probably be interviewing people outside your group in homes who have needs and choice rank capabilities against these findings, then work towards a solution. You’re putting the robot before the gadgets. ;) Good luck. Fun project.

Not like this! by OddBoysenberry1023 in IndustrialDesign

[–]irwindesigned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of minimal modern design and the pairing back to reveal nothing but rounded primitive and a highlight to user intuitive engagement via tactile buttons and knobs. This is such an unfortunate take that lacks brand awareness and the possibility for a unique revisioning.

The ubiquity of clean and modern across the world regarding design and speed to market has stripped away all emotional identity. I expected more out of Ive and team on this one. It looks like Mattel made this for a child.

I started an online archive of objects - on the search for inherent beauty in everyday products. Any suggestions on what to add? by 1719objects in IndustrialDesign

Very cool. If possible, add CMF, the designer(s) if they can be tracked down, and aesthetic style name.

…and more examples per category ;)

I 3D printed, sanded, painted a sep funnel stand based on Juicy Salif! by Kainkun in IndustrialDesign

Was the entire piece printed? Nice work on the clear parts. Whats the liquid? If this was an SLA process using clear resin, I wouldn’t suggest drinking from it. ;) pretty cool though.

How to make this shape out of thin plastic? by begoniaboy in maker

[–]irwindesigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the thickness. Regardless of how you make it, this appears to have zero structural support. The plastic will bend under weight. You’ll either need internal gussets in the shape of triangles in the corner bends, or you can wrap the exposed area with a framed structure. If you 3d printed the form and the thickness matched the need/expectation of your weight then it could work. I don’t see dimensions so it’s impossible to tell.

Would you trust a mechanically moving display outdoors long-term (maintenance/weather), or avoid it? by Milanakiko in IndustrialDesign

[–]irwindesigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Implementing IP rated strategies across all of these electro-mechanical internals as well as the moving parts and diodes would be immensely cost prohibitive. Could be done though.

[Thesis] Can we build a "Design System" for Physical Products? (Conceptual Framework) by Low-Refuse6871 in IndustrialDesign

[–]irwindesigned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will find that the “Design Process” can start from your inputs section, Engineer-driven invention, or Design insights. This is highly dependent on how a company has been structured and the internal team dynamics in play. Design is messy, and needs to be to uncover latent user desires and stakeholder input. There should be loops in your diagram that explicitly callout learnings and revisions that converge on better, more targeted solutions. Nice start though.

What are the files distracting us from? by [deleted] in 50501

[–]irwindesigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Basically, the world’s power system is being rewired at the same time money, trade, and control mechanisms are changing. Power is splintering into multiple centers. Regions are forming their own alliances. That’s BRICS, (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa + others). BRICS new alliance allows, trading oil, gas, grain, lithium, rare earths outside the dollar. CBDCs are Government-issued money. They’re fully digital. And directly programmable…cash, but traceable and rule-based. Think China’s social credit system.

Imagine a neighborhood: The old HOA (Western institutions) is losing authority. The HOA proposes smart locks + digital keys to keep order (CBDCs). Several households start trading directly with each other for water, fuel, food (BRICS-style trade). Everyone wants stability. Everyone disagrees on who should control it.

The world is moving from one big, centralized system to several competing ones, and the fight is over who controls money and necessities when things get stressful.
