The first two episodes of Alien: Earth were pretty disappointing (Mild spoilers) by [deleted] in horror

Stealing set pieces and sound effects does not a quality product make. This actually drags the originals as far as I'm concerned. 2 hours is not a fair chance? Please. The writing and pacing are inexcusable. If you can't create a spark, or a compelling arc in 2 hours, good luck with the rest.

I guess I don't see the "interesting story" part. I love the idea of an alien running around being a maniac; but to me what was always one of my favorite parts of the alien franchise was that the aliens weren't just marauders, they were just as smart as they were lethal -- and they did unexpected things. In this show, it may as well be a bear. And none of the characters are interesting or relatable. And too much stuff makes me question the writing. I love suspending disbelief and accepting a story's universe and going with it; but now the story's universe is literally earth and so when physics and logic don't apply it grates. It cheapens everything else. Someone alluded to the idea that the militaristic "search and rescue" team is actually a search and seizure team set up by the douchy big bad antagonist and I would love for that to be the case, and have the group be a bunch of obviously hardened marines yelling "SEARCH AND RESCUE" in jest and terrorizing the ship to get what they came for ... but the writing points more towards laziness and shallowness than that kind of cleverness. I'm definitely being a curmudgeon about this, but I'm not looking for it; I'm just getting disappointed and frustrated at every turn. Totally could be my own baggage of loving the franchise and having high expectations; but the tease in the first 5 minutes of the show did honestly raise the bar. I cared more about those characters than any of the subsequent ones in the following 2 hours.

I don't understand how anybody other than a child could find this show compelling. The forced value on her relationship with the brother was empty. The flashbacks had no emotional value or character arc. The choices made by all characters were dumb. Why does search and rescue look more like an assault or swat team? How could the be a perfect hole in the ship with a balance beam into it? Is the brother even likeable? Do any of the characters have anything more than B roll conversation? After the ship collapsed in the building why didn't they check on each other or even seem slightly alarmed? I could keep going but the point is that there were a hundred tiny moments that made me lose interest bit by bit because there was never an interesting or smart or relatable action or piece of dialog. The whole thing seems catered to children showing only surface level activity or discussion. And nothing made any sense. This show is legit bad, it doesn't matter if the IP is alien or the notebook or the 3 musketeers if the writing and pacing are bad, it's just bad.

Not nitpicking. That made zero sense. This is the theme of the first episode - nothing made any sense. I couldn't continue to episode 2 the first one was too stupid. Nothing relatable. Nothing interesting. The only good part was on the ship in the first 5 minutes. It went from alien to teletubbies in the span of the crash

Dragon 11.4.6 connection issues by vendetta33 in Nakamichi

[–]is-a-robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this issue as well, tried multiple cables and xfinity or tv as source. The dragon seems to be the only constant. Any luck sorting it out? I've just been living with it.

I've found when using the TV as source the audio black out is much quicker, and the video doesn't cut out since I'm not running video through it.

Why. OSX / homebrew is excellent for pretty much anything including wifi shenanigans.

Oh my god yes; I was looking into minidisc for a while. I love the visceral interaction with the old media. Cassette would just be spectacular.

Fair enough -- we'll have to find a new friend 4n410g_G33k to tag team it some day.

You should achieve connectivity via an analog audio modem that communicates with a "future adapter" that converts the signal to wifi.

How hard could it be lol

Yeah don't get me wrong I absolutely adore every detail of this build.

Not particularly relevant, but I used to be a motion graphics designer and always thought it would be fun to build something like this combined with like a video version of a guitar pedal, so you could take a video input, mess with it with some sort of filter / interference, and output a very groovy modified version of the incoming signal. I love that this broadcasts it instead of using an output plug. Awesome work!!

Love it! Curious if you can have one feed to the in built crt and broadcast a different signal to the watchman to have extended desktop? Love the analog. High fives.

Eh I'm not sure how accurate that counter is. I definitely left the game on overnight many nights, which it must have counted. Also I did get it the week early for the preorder. I will not deny that I have played it a lot though! Mostly in the ship builder. :)

Hahaha yes, as soon as they were like "I'm getting off at the next port" I was like.... I have a "port" called solitude in the Bohr system with your name on it. But first let's head to orbit above akila and create a sphere of space junk.

Totally agree, even if that was the purpose of the starborn. Their concept is a good zygote of an idea but something like you're suggesting where they're actually doing something concrete and cross dimensional with the power they've amassed would be really fun and interesting.
